Dec. 2012 Tesoro Resort Manzanillo

We stayed at the Tesoro resort Manzanillo Dec. 2012..about a month and half before Rissask...(enjoying her report)

Will do this in 3 parts...Tesoro Resort...Manzanillo and Santiago Colima Mexico

Welcome to Tesoro... Not a huge resort..Bit bigger than we are used to... Some say the resort was a bit tired..we never saw that..We saw a very clean resort... we saw staff working very long hrs and working hard to make the resort a nice place to stay..We are not into stars except when they are in the sky... LOL..Would not hesitate to go back to this resort..

We became friends with the Resorts Concierge...Not something she does normally but she took us up to the 19th floor to show us the penthouse and also so we could get a great view of the area and take pics... Special time for us..... Santiago in the background

Around the Resort... We had all meals at the Resort... A La Cartes were very good..enjoyed breakfast and lunch buffet... We had a few dinner buffets on main level...Sat on edge on buffet area by open area and enjoyed sounds of the Ocean...We made quite a few friends at the resort so put together many tables and enjoyed great conversation and lots of laughter with them... The lobby bar was the hang out place..happy hr. and The bar stayed open till 1 am and most eve's we were up till 12 or 1am..We Love to dance and did ... there was dancing in the lobby bar..Disc Jockey was great and I believe pleased all folks song request..One eve. we watched a boxing match there and one eve..Karoke night..We went to the disco and enjoyed dancing and watching some of the fantastic Mexican Salsa dancers... Disco was open a few nights 11pm till am..
Mornings were slow..coffee tea on balcony...Then down for breakfast and off exploring after that then it was pool beach time.. (Will work on Manzanillo and Santiago pics this week....)

By the pool we had what we called Canada Row... Side of the swim up bar... and there were lots of us...Ages from just under one yr old to 2 great fellows ages 84 and 85.....
Karoke night in the Lobby bar.. What a hoot Hubby Bill on the left...
He sang in English Fellow on right sang in Spanish..fellow in the middle came to help out... The 3 Amigos...

YOU want me...What happens in Mazatlan stay in Mazatlan...

This little guy went round and round.. Took his swimming very seriously.. He looked at me and made sure I clapped and cheered him on each round...

Beach Volley ball... Hmmm how did the older guys get on one team...Hubby (63 yrs old) going for the ball.. 84 yr old put most folks to shame..He hikes..bikes in the mountains..swims..did aerobics..enjoyed cerveza and was hilarious....

Many of the guys played water polo..came out with scratches..Bill gave as much as he got...They also played soccer on the beach... All ages... Bill ripped is trunks..hmm funny watching him trying to hide his privates while coming to Can. row to get a towel from me...
The Bay will not be so private anymore..New condo coming up... Check out the show suite... LOL

We are not into rec staff shows but one night there was a pirate show on the beach and after that a beach party which made for fun..\

Great view from room..We stayed on one of the lower sides of resort..only 4 floors..we were on 4th floor.. end of resort opposite side of disco..Great view of the Ocean.. Very Quiet

Although Manz had the mountains and beautiful sunsets I did not find it like PV at all... I hope this area does not turn into another PV touristy..timeshare area...
and.... Thank You...You are allowed to make that last comment anytime...

Manzanillo and Santiago pics coming soon

editing to say that they sure are promoting Manzanillo on Calgary radio stations... Fingers crossed the area stays the same as it is now

Manzanillo and Santiago pics coming soon
I sure hope not! PV has gotten to be infested with them...so bothersome....especially the shark tank at the airport.

I like this area much better than PV. Still lots of amenities (Wal Mart! Starbucks! Burger King! ), great for long term stays, and just touristy enough for visitors without being overly commercialized.

And Manzanillo has more reliable hot winter weather than PV, and much clearer. I know a few people who are thinking of buying condos here.

Sylvia, looking forward to the rest of your pics.

Thanks CJ99.... See you are from Regina .....I sure hope you are a Rider fan... You may like a pic I have that I will post tomorrow...

Manzanillo.. We did A LOT of walking around Manzanillo and Santiago.. I really enjoy seeing all sides of Mexico... I love getting off of the main streets(The people are wonderful everywhere) When I saw some of the Christmas decorations on homes where one knew they did not have much... a poinsettia here a garland on a balcony I just knew that the folks who lived in the homes were so proud and happy and just as excited about the Season...

Manzanillo is a working city... When nearing the Malecon and El Centro one can see miles of ship cargo Containers..
Manzanillo is also home to the Navy's Pacific Naval Force..
If you wish to stop and have a cool one or bite to eat drop into the classic Bar Social just off the waterfront or the 1940's Hotel Colonial .. Clean Bano's there
I have a few fav. photos... Next 3 are some of them..The little girls Mommy's did not know English..I only know a few Spanish words but we managed to communicate and I got permission to take the photos
Every little Girls dream ...to have a Princess dress....

I asked if we could enter the naval base..I felt very safe there with the guards and their machine guns and with the fellows on the navy ship...I wanted to take more pics of the base..little homes and the children's play area but felt I better not push my luck....

Could you sleep easy there... ? Kind of pretty

Yikes..the electrical wires...

Every Year I try and book a trip to Mexico in December... Fav. time of the yr there...

I will put this in before Santiago..

Our vacation to Mexico was great...
Like Maggie's husbands new hip mine works great and I really never think about it.
I do have a grade 2 inoperable brain tumor...Size of a golf ball..(someone had a bad shot) The tumor is very slow growing and took a long time to get to the size it is and one can have this type of tumor for many many yrs without it doing too much so maybe?..I was told that Eventually it will turn into a grade 3. 4..When only God knows ....I could be 63..maybe 90 LOL and if it changes I will fight it at that time... symptom for my kind of tumor are seizures..I have anywhere from 2 to 5 a day.. 2 of them are bit longer and stronger but I am so very blessed...I have NO pain..On the outside have no signs of it ... I get a warning before I have a seizure..Metallic taste in my mouth..I have time to sit down then slowly breath through the seizure...No passing out..fully aware of all that is going on around me... For now it is watch and see and I do not worry about what I cannot change....MRI every 3 months...If the time comes I need more than just meds I will first have a brain? biopsy..only 10 % chance of going into a stroke affecting my left side...They maybe able to pluck some of the tumor out..If it gets worse then I guess radiation last would be chemo... In case of that in Mexico I bought some very cool bandanna's...2 pirate style
I kept up with everyone..I can swim with a buddy... danced my feet off... walked and walked ..beach..resort and streets of Manzanillo and Santiago...By not taking night meds I could have wobbly pops and I did...
so again I say I am so very blessed..

One fun and coincidence on the trip was..... ( I will be 62 on the 6th March) When I was in grade 8 met a gal that became a very close friend of mine ...In summer we played on the same ball team... High School years we ended up in the same classes... My friend married young ( I was with her the night she met her hubby) and had a little 4lb babe late 60's... I was in their life a lot during his first yr of life... Then times changed and they moved out of the city etc and we lost touch until a few yrs ago when my GF and I touched base again on FB...
I mentioned to my friend I Was going to the Tesoro Manzanillo..She said no way ...son Dean is booked there same time same flight ... When he was told he said I do not know her and of course I only knew him as a babe... (could have been his auntie but that is another story ) anyway I snooped his FB pics and he did the same ..we then knew what each other looked like..It was fun hanging out with him and telling him lots of stories he did not know... last week I was going through my travel pics and I said NO WAY.. Coincidence again...We were at the same resort same time In Puerto Vallarta 2005... I did not know who he was ..If I had asked him his last name I would have put it together..
Here are the 2 pics.
First is PV..2nd Manzanillo
The kid Dean that just about made me pee my pants laughing..wish I had known then he was the babe I held so often... Our friends Jim and Laurie gave him his hat...

Kid Dean and I. After one A La Carte dinner we had popped into a buffet restaurant to have a drink and say Hi to some friends before we went to the lobby bar..

Pretty rec staff gals giggling behind me..turned around and had to take the pic

will end report with (Santiago ) later today or tomorrow...

Santiago
I really enjoyed this area
Another Fav Pic
Peek A Boo...I see you... NO need for Day Care

Saturday Flea market was good..A few blocks away there is another market.. Very large indoor tent style ..places that sells everything from food ..household items..clothes etc..
Across from the Sat. Flea market is a place where expats hangout for chats..few cerveza...We met there for a cool one a few times... The folks were most helpful in giving directions to us as I was looking for specific gifts to bring home..On the sidewalk white plastic chairs are set up in the shade that is made from trees... A very clean bano inside...In the back storeroom..Room full of cases of Beer...Bano has no rim no door..I sang Feliz Navida every time I was in there ..just to let folks know I was there..
Although we live in Alberta we are from Saskatoon Sask.. We are huge Saskatchewan RoughRider Fans... What a thrill to find this vendor and ....oh lookie what I see

I made a Saskatchewan RoughRider Fan out of this Vendor.. Poncho was 25.00...I did not bargain ..It would have cost triple n Canada..I tried to find in on the Rider on line store but could not... Also very soft material... love it...

I should not judge as I do not who owns the pretty home.but..somehow it just does not seem to suit the area and how would it make those that live there feel... Maybe on the other side of the home it is different..I wanted to go look but did not...

Little fellow that was on Canadian row throughout the week with us at the Tesoro with his Mommy and Daddy...Think the noise in the lobby bar put him to sleep...
And now Manzanillo is in the past...Time to dream of a vacation to Mexico this coming Dec...

Sylvia, very good report.

That is so funny about your friends' son being on a different vacation and in the photo you took without even knowing who he was! Love it.

Good for you with your wonderful attitude about your tumor. That is inspirational to see, someone who could feel sorry for themselves yet has such an optimistic, positive outlook. I wish you many happy and healthy years ago- and many more trips to Mexico! (Glad the hip is doing well, too, Don is good as new!)
