Hash House Harriers of QR

There have been occasional posts asking if there is a Hash House Harriers group in the Riviera Maya (the drinking club with a running problem). Well, we are hoping to start the Quintana Roo Hash House Harriers (QRHHH) with an inaugural run in the Dos Ojos area on Saturday, March 9th at 2:00PM (hopefully with a little help from some visitors from the Bimbo Hash of New Jersey). Start will be at Dos Ojos Lodge (www.dosojoslodge.com). Trail will be approximately 3 to 4 miles with shorter options available.
What is hashing you ask? At a hash, one or more members ("hares") lay a trail (often in flour), which is then followed by the remainder of the group (the "pack" or "hounds"). The trail periodically ends at a "check" where the pack must find where the trail picks up again; often the trail includes false trails, short cuts, dead ends, back checks and splits. These features are designed to keep the pack together despite differences in fitness level or running speed, as front-runners are forced to slow down to find the "true" trail, allowing stragglers to catch up.

Check out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hash_House_Harriers http://harrier.net/presskit/shistory.html

Our goal is to make the QRHHH friendly to both runners and walkers, so no matter your ability, consider this as a fun way to see new areas, meet new folks, and have a beer. If you are interested and want more information please PM me. If you plan on coming, please PM me so there is enough beer ;-)

So as to not take up bandwidth here for future runs we have created a QRHHH Facebook page. Use it to find where the next run is, how the last run went. Use it to contact us about being the next "hare".

This is fantastic! Not sure I can join this one but would love to do one in the future. I love, love, love trail running and didn't know of any trails to run around here. Do you guys always run trails? Is there a regular trail running group?

The term "trail" is used loosely by hashers. NYC hash set trail in Manhattan while Princeton shuns roads all together. It varies, not too many US type of "hiking trails" down here. QRHHH will likely be a mix of road, bushwhacking and the occasional dirt road/ jungle trail.

I did this once near Tenochtitlán. Quite the juxtaposition.

the whole point of this site is to encourage this sort of sharing, so it's not considered taking up bandwidth. Especially when the option is Facebook

Fantastic! I was involved with HHH while living in the South Pacific. It was a great way to hang with other ex-pats, see the jungle, and just have a great time. I visited HHH groups in many Asian islands and cities and took part in the Mother Hash in Kuala Lumpur.

For anyone intrigued I would highly recommend it and I look forward to crashing the party while I'm in Playa.

Mark your calendars for the second running of the QRH3. December 15th 2:00pm.

Meet at the Constituyentes under Rt 307. Expect some shiggy if the hare can find any. Come explore parts of Playa that most tourist never see. We will likely end at a local taco vendor/bar so bring some pesos for refreshments and fine dining.

Expect about 5km with a shorter turkey trail for those who wish to walk. Remember hashes are not races and we accept all who have half a mind to hash, because that's all it takes!

Most hashes have a "walking" group. As QRHHH evolves my guess is that it will as well. Typically the "hare" will set a shorter (turkey) trail for the walkers and a longer (eagle) trail for the runners.

Attention all walkers! The pokier, but better- looking and temporarily gimpy half of the QRHHH founders will be plunging today’s Turkey trail to new depths of leisurely ambulation and shameless shortcutting. If you have half a mind to come out today, join me on a jaunt through the streets of Playa followed by beer and fun with the QRHHH!

Mark your calendars for the 4th running of the QRH3. May 16th 4:00pm.

Meet at the Boxito on Calle 34 Norte and Rt 307 (I need some grout). Expect some shiggy if the hare can find any. Come explore parts of Playa that most tourist never see. We will likely end at a local taco vendor/bar so bring some pesos for refreshments and fine dining.
