Day 4 was Thursday and it was AMAZING!! I had to force myself to stay in bed until 6:30.

So you can't even tell there was a wedding here last night. I KNOW they were going strong till well after midnight because we didn't get home till then! These guys work magic.

Convinced Husband to get up and I did something I don't think I've done before, I played the towel game.

We weren't gone long, maybe 20-30 minutes because I don't eat much. Plus I can only do so much time in Albatross with the kids.

*Sidenote: IF you stay at the GPR that pic is why we played the towel game. There's this gazebo where they do the massages and we parked our chairs right in front of it. It was so nice and peaceful! Nobody came near us except our our beach waiter.

Our beach waiter knew Husband very well..."Mas hielo, mas Jack, little Coke!" He would say this every time. He honestly made our day every time we saw him and I want to kick myself for not writing down his name. I didn't think I had to at the time because talked to him so much I didn't think I'd forget.

So those were the only pics it seems I took all day. We layed out, drank, read books, I swam in the amazing water. Relaxing. That's what this trip was about. I think I might have taken a nap in the room.

For dinner we were going OUT! We had dinner at HC Monterrey (ohmahgawd so good)

Now we need to walk Husband. Walk to Luna Blue. Vamos.

Beers and our leftovers.

Let me start by saying that I remember only about a 1/4 of this evening. I know I had fun, I know Jorge was da bomb dot com, I know I met some Canadians that I invited out the next night, I know there was music that I liked. The last thing I know is that I like tequila.

I love the Luna Blue. Very much. I think we might even stay there next time. I had a lot of fun. My poor saint of a Husband told me I had TOO much fun! IN MEXICO? Never. Ok well in his defense I did make Fifth Avenue into Feet Avenue that night. Yes folks, flip flops were just too hard to figure out. I admit that I walked home barefoot (does it count though if I don't remember it?)

Tequila es malo!

Friday - our last full day

Did anyone get the number of the bus that hit me??? I slept so late I don't even know who I am. Thank you Jorge I needed that. Decided to do brunch at Carboncito's and away we went. Walking up 1st is reallly nice we took that way most mornings until 14th I think. That street is my new favorite.

I think I took that pic because of the jelly fish lights. Or tequila made me do it who knows.

Brekkie was a croissant for me and a bacon, egg & cheese burrito for the Mr. He ate this whole giant thing because "No bite left behind". I had 2 pina de aguas and he had 1 pina and 1 kiwi. We agreed the pina was the best. So good, we made them when we got home .

We strolled around town afterwards and I took pics.

At this point it's hot. HOT!! Plus I'm sweating tequila and I need mas agua. So we head back to the room for a rest. My only pics of the GPR.

We went back to the room for a little nap through the heat of the day because as evidenced by the pic of me from the night before, I am a lobster.

Woke up refreshed and made some drinks in the room. Decided to be sociable and go to Gaviota's to see if they ever got some JD there. They DID!!!!! So my notes mention a woman named Wanda. I don't remember everything but what I do remember is she was being outwardly rude to some guys on the other side because they were different political affiliations. It was late afternoon so obviously drinks had been flowing all day and most people are drunk or very drunk at this point. It gave us a little laugh listening to them argue at first but it got annoying quick. The bartenders were the reason I stayed. They were making jokes about the drunks and I was able to catch some of it (see Husband I know Spanish!) so we got a good chuckle at that.

I don't know if we were going to eat at the buffet or out in the first place but when we got to Albatross there was a PRIVATE steak dinner. Where was my dang invite? So dinner out it is.

We went to La Carmela's and had the yummiest fajitas!!

I wish I could remember why we were drinking Corona. We never drink those...

It was a really nice night (I even took my sweater off) people watching on 5th. I had to keep looking south because looking north I could see the poor kitties and my plan to abscond with them wasn't quite ready.

After dinner it was tequila shopping time! I brought back this amazing peach tequila a few years ago and I HAD to get more!!!!

I love Hacienda Tequila. LOVE it. I go every time I'm in PDC. I've done so many tequila tastings there that I don't remember

Found out they no longer make the tequila I wanted in regular size. Only these little souvenir versions

So off we went to see our friend Manuel at Tequila Town. We had a few beers with him and bought some tequila. We bought some pomegranate and some chocolate. We have since run out of BOTH bottles of pom. Guess I'll be buying more next time.

That finished we dropped it in the room and ran off to Luna Blue because apparently I was supposed to take the Canadians to the Dirty Martini.

Jorge got a good laugh at me when I walked in. Handed me these.

Soooooooooooo I guess I said something about that last night huh? Had some beers there, I think Husband let me do a shot or 2 of tequila. The Canadians ditched us. But we made new friends because that's what we do. I don't recall where they were from my notes just say "took the Yanks to the DM" so I think they were from up north.

We drank there for a long while because everytime Mr. Yank would buy us a beer Husband had to buy them a beer. Mrs. Yank and I talked a lot about where everything was in town. If memory serves me right it was their first time not doing AI. Don't quote me, I was fuzzy. Probably still am...

I think parted we with them around 12. We took the long way back to the room and enjoyed our last evening stroll. Damn I was going to miss this place.

Last Day - time to go home

So I haven't convinced Husband we need to live here full time yet so he's making me leave. I told him we could just send for Johnny and it would be fine. He didn't bite so I had to start packing. I'm freezing to butt off and can't find my sweater. I'm convinced Jorge's magic tequila is to blame so off I run to Luna Blue. It wasn't there. Fart. That was my favorite sweater! So I slow down and take in my last morning stroll along 5th. One shirt store is open and I just can't resist. I had to have it.

Get back to the GPR and finish the packing up. Head to Albatross for my last mimosa and then one more drink at the Lobby Bar.

Thanks for the straws Jorge!

Is there some sad country song playing or is that just my tears in my beer?

The most liberating moment of this trip...

Our ride picks us up on time dammit. This was a first: he tried to get us to stay at some of the mega resorts north of PDC as we were driving by them. Nah. Thanks dude but I got this covered.

Finish check in and stop for the one and only Bud Light in Mexico.

So we get to our boarding gate and relax. It was at this moment I realize my sweater was left at La Carmela's last night (remember that warm night) and dammit! Oh well. Teach me not to bring my favorite.

So they call our gate to start boarding and I look up to see Pittsburgh as the destination. Ummm, honey that's not in Texas. Run to one of the tv's and sure enough they've moved our gate and our flight is BOARDING!!!! RUNNNNNNNNNN! Ok it wasn't quite that dramatic when we realized it was only 3 gates over, but still scary. Plus the line is long. LOOOOOOOOOONG!!! We weren't the only ones that didn't know. There was no announcement or anything. Oh well. TIM right? So this is different, we go down some stairs to the outside and onto a non-airconditioned bus. This isn't very fun people.

We were stuffed like sardines onto this thing and bussed out to the plane. All 3 doors open at the same time and it's bedlam to get to the plane!

We got separated from each other but I knew my seat number. I wanted to get on 2nd so Husband could have the window seat (no 1st class upgrade this time) but that didn't happen. I got to our seats and there was just no room for us to maneuver him getting by me. So poor 6'5 Husband sat in the middle. Patient patient man.

Get home and it's back to the grind. Rodeo is starting up and traffic is a mess, even for a Saturday. Drove to my inlaws and yanked up my Johnny Ringo for some kitty kisses. He was sooooooooo mad at me that night! He didn't talk to me for a good half hour.

We made plans that night to come back for our anniversary again in 2014. Things have changed since then and we won't make it just yet. But it looks like we'll be there in November with some friends. JUST IN TIME FOR TASTE OF PLAYA!!!!!! I'm finally going to make it!!!!!!

Final Musings and Random Pics

So, I don't hate the GPR. I think it's probably a really great place for families. I think I was more mad at myself because I compared it so much to the RPDC and you just can't! That's like apples and oranges.

The food was good. I'm just not a big eater! A couple tacos & some fruit during the day and I'm good. That said, for people that do AI's and like AI's this is your place. I honestly was never bored with the selection at Albatross for breakfast.

The waiters and waitresses at all the restaurants, the beach butlers, and most of the bartenders were awesome.

My biggest complaints are probably things I would have overlooked had I not been comparing them, except one. The JD bottle in the room thing. 920MXN???? Are you out of your damn mind? This wasn't some off the wall request I just thought up either. I did the same thing at RPDC, Fernando was so quick to oblige and even brought me Diet Cokes because they only had Pepsi products at the time! I also did it at Playacar Palace. Hell some nights the bartenders would just give us the bottle to take to our room when they were shutting down.

When I look back though I guess I'm glad. These little complaints are what has convinced Husband to NOT GO AI AGAIN!!! Well that and the tacos at HC Monterrey.

This was a wonderful trip for us. I'm so glad we made it. It truly was the highlight of 2013 for us, and I have some great memories. And some stories told to me for the things I forgot

Thanks y'all for not forgetting about me and this trip. I know I haven't forgotten it. I promise in the future to be better about these. Hell I've never even done one for my trip to Fusion, Tulum & the Jungle Place in 2011! Maybe that's next...

GPR did have a great view

Thanks Jorge for being the amazingly sweet, fun, happy person that everyone says you are.

We don't do our hair in Mexico

To the little guy I named Milo, I'll see you soon!

This literally means agave in Russian (I texted my friend while I was there)

Mermaid?

These ladies are serious!

Adios Mexico! Until we meet again!

Thank you for coming back and finishing this report. You are very funny!

I love Jorge. He is the best!!

We will be going Nov. 22-29, so hopefully we will get a chance to meet up either at Luna Blue or Dirty Martini.

[quote=Emmylousue;2030202]Thanks! Just sorry it took so long. But I'm missing PDC and this was the best way to get a fix.

I know what you mean about missing Playa. We should have been there this March; as it turns out, we may not make it back until November

Great report! I'm seriously impressed that you were able to generate such a detailed narrative so long after the fact. Great photos, too

We were hoping to be back this February but it's looking more like November for us as well.

Thanks to so many TR's here I learned the valuable lesson of writing my trip down and I have my notes to thank for most of my memories. They were able to remind me of most of the days and what we did, thus the fog would lift.

Thank you. The bad weather here is what forced me to do this TR. I have been stalking travel sites for the past week wishing to get away so this kind of helped. A little. Except now I just want to go back more!

If you are at the RPDC around Nov 8-15, 2014, we might be there, in which case we'll be happy to show you how REAL Canadians live it up!
