That Was The Last Straw

Well it's only been 4 years, but I finally convinced Husband to go back to PDC. I. Couldn't. Wait. We booked only about 3 weeks out so it was a little scramble to find something. Especially since some people are hard headed and refuse to go non-AI (cough cough Husband) but I'm not naming names.

So after telling him all about my trip to the RPDC 3 years ago he's on board. Oops. They're booked. OK how about Playacar Palace where we stayed for our Honeymoon?? No. He wants something different. OK. Well I've never been to the Gran Porto but it's the sister to the RPDC so it's close enough right?! It's on! Is it Feb 17th yet?

Day 1

I'm that person that will book the 9am flight. I. Want. To. Get. There. NOW. But Mr. I like to sleep in made me book the 11ish. Which worked out because this is what I was dealing with that morning:

Obviously I was dressed for one and not the other.

Smooth ride to the airport from my dear Nelson. Seriously, if you're in the Houston area and need a car service Nelson Transportation is the way to go. We've been using him personally for YEARS and my company uses him as well.

So we get to check in and Husband just can NOT figure out how we're seats 1 & 2. I'm dying over my surprise of First Class upgrade for him (well Business now that it's United). So get through the security shenanigans and it's off to the Fox Sports Lounge. Momma needs her first official vacay drink.

Here it is:

I just looooooooooooove living in Texas. NO liquor on the table before noon without food there first. Fine. Give me the damn mediocre at best nachos.

And NOW the real drinks. Double Jack & Diet Coke.

Just one because someone left his sunglasses at home and we must hightail it to Sunglasses Hut. Found some amazing Gucci's but he was adament I would spend enough $$ in Playa so I didn't need them. Plus what about the 4 pair in my bag? A GIRL NEEDS OPTIONS HUSBAND!!

Time to board and this is where he finds out he's FIRST CLASS (I'm going to call it that because I don't like United and miss Continental) because we get to board first He loved the surprise (Wife of the Year)

Bye Bye Houston

Enjoying Andy from the air

I didn't take pics of the food or drinks because frankly the food was not that great. Husband ate it. I somewhat enjoyed his soup (potato I think). I was thoroughly enjoying the drinks because these ladies know how to pour!

He loves me for this:

I'm just trying to rest up

EEK I see Mexican soil!!!

We're early...I'm trying to be patient

But this plane needs to move. NOW!

We finally get off the plane and through customs. Not a long wait at all. Get our luggage. This was new: they only made him hit the button. Got the green. GO. Found our USA Transfer guy and waited max 7 minutes and we're on the van and off!

First time I haven't been able to get a good pic of the "Welcome to Paradise" sign

We get to the GPR and do the check in and get the spiel on what's included and our "rep" we're supposed to meet. Get up to the room and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

So at this point we take stock of the mini bar and fridge. Per usual they give some bourbon or whiskey that we'll NEVER drink it so we made a couple tequila/sprites and enjoyed our view. Decide to just walk around the resort and get the lay of the land.

*Sidenote* The first time you try to figure out where everything is here you will get seriously confused. Or maybe that was just us. And the tequila.

So we go down to Guest Services and find out that everything is included *except. That was fun. Tried to get us to go to the Royal. Not happening. Husband is lucky he has me or he would fall for this spiel every time! We asked if we could trade out a bottle in the mini bar for a bottle of JD and are told we'll have to call Room Service for this. Ok fine. We head to the outdoor bar Gaviota's and ask for 2 JD's. He doesn't have any but offers us some Tennessee rot gut something. Um no. I want JD. Lo Siento. OK FINE. Go into the Lobby and get a couple there. Head up to the room and call Room Service about the bottle exchange. The young man has to call his Manager and will call me back. 5 minutes later we're informed that it will be 920MXN to get the bottle *Everything is Included Except*

So at this point I have to get off this resort because I can't deal with the cattle trough buffet. We exchange some USD to MXN at the front desk and take of walking. At this point I FINALLY feel I'm home. 5th is alive and the smells and the sights...and oh I'm just so happy. I think we went to PG's first but it was DEAD. So we walked. And then we walked some more. I probably would have walked all night but Mr.Cranky Pants needs to eat so I just stopped at Pez Vela because swing bar

I apologize for my lack of pics from this evening but we had some AMAZING nachos, tacos & beers. (I've never eaten at PV before...just drank) Took 2 Pacificos to go and walked back to the room. Did some unpacking and just crashed at 10ish.

Day 2

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE UP!!! You're in paradise!!!

I slowly convince Husband to get his tail into gear because it's sort of daylight outside.

*Sidnote* He and my mother both hate vacay with me because I'm that person up at 5am rip roarin ready to go. I'll sleep when I'm dead

So we did breakfast at Albatross the buffet. I will admit, this place was our daily go to and it did not get old. I was highly impressed. So now it's time to really see PDC. This is my favorite time. Early am watching the shops coming to life. Few people out running, walking dogs, just getting it going. It's so peaceful. I made this poor man walk forever! Until we passed our good friend who shall forever be named "Happy Hour" because that's what he shouted at us. Husband says we will be back. So 1/2 hour later after Momma is shopped out we stopped back by La Carmelia's on 5th. Ok what's HH? 2x1. Ok we'll bite. Pacifico for me and Victoria for him.

I found out the story of this place that they're VERY new which is why I didn't recognize it. It's a great people watching place. I wish I could remember what cross street it's near but I think it's 14th. Next to us there was the sweetest baby ocelot (I found it later it was a jaguar I think he said) and a white tiger. It crushed me. The one was so tiny it could barely walk on it's own. I started telling Husband they're REAL story and he truly was surprised but not. As the week wore on and we saw them more and more I was devising a plan to kittynap them. But he wouldn't let me

We have a baby back home that is the love of our life and that's why it hurts so much. Everyone knows the sun rises and sets for me on Johnny Ringo.

OK so Husband says he needs to get me out of there before I steal a kitty and get thrown in Mexican jail and he'd leave me there and wait WHAT???

On the way back coming down First I see Tequila Town. I think another beer is needed to get me back on the reservation. So we have 2 Pacificos and the most wonderful time with Manuel. We were the only ones there as it was still early so we got talk tequila with him and listen to stories of centuries old ways of making it and where it comes from and who's better. And well we had a blast. A couple of sample shots later and I'm thoroughly warmed up. We head out with promises to return. And we will. So we head out for some beach time. The sun is threatening and we need to rid ourselves of our utter whiteness.

We stopped earlier at a store and bought some Bubba Kegs because I didn't pack any. But I like these better because they're a little smaller and well they say PDC (I'm a dork, it's cool). Went to Tradewinds to scope a good sitting spot & get some JD.

Great view from Tradewinds

So we picked our spot and not it's time do what we came here for: Get horizontal and RELAX!

I think he's got this relaxing thing down to a science.

So at this point they start setting up something...we have no idea what. But they are having hell with these flags in this wind!

We soon find out, as her comes a very lovely lady (and I'm awful because I wrote her name down and lost the slip but we saw her many times. It was either Delia or Dalia) and she explains that they're doing a surf and turf for couples on the beach that night. Husband bites. What can I say? The way to his heart is through is stomach. So they offer a free bottle of wine to our room if we buy in. Smart man that he is Husband says uh uh. We drink JD not wine. Get me a bottle of JD to the room and it's on. That man gets things done y'all.

So that evening this happened (something I swore I'd never do)

You know you're jealous of my red carpet.

I will give them this: it was a great filet and Husband LOVED his lobster but good lawd was it windy. I'm not a cold weather fan. Not at all. So we had dessert delivered to our room. I'm not proud of the next pic but I will show it. I blame Manuel at Tequila Town.

I promise it was after 9pm. I'm not a total lightweight.

I noticed you had a Gig Em hat on and your husband was sporting a Hook Em shirt. Coincidence or is there a story here?..
Have fun at the Rodeo. We were there last weekend for The Band Perry. Would've rather seen King George...

Great start!!! Loving the pics!!!

We booked the Gran Porto Real 3 or 4 times, but we always took the upgrade to the Royal at check-in. May I ask what the upgrade rate is now?

Thanks - I truly write exactly what I'm thinking so I probably said some of this out loud while I was there
