November 2013 peeps

Seems like a bunch of folks are going down to area in November

I just booked our tickets to arrive at Cancun late morning on November 12. It means a red-eye from Portland to Cancun on United, leaving at about 11:30 pm on November 11. (Are you getting this, Dana?).

Our first 4 nights will be on Isla Mujeres. After that, it depends, in part, on plans of others - but we know we will head either to Playa or Merida on November 16.

Mahaual and Xcalak also planned for the trip.

Was talking to a guy just this afternoon at Bad Boys. He is heading back home to live in Fort Collins, CO after living the past 2 years in Xcalak. He told me that Xcalak is really dead this year. Also he said that the horrible roads were redone 4 months ago but after a few rains are back to being horrible roads.

We're heading to Costa Maya for 3-5 nights at the end of April. I'm so curious about that area generally, but we only booked two nights in Xcalak, with one night in Mahahaul first. We left the 4th and 5th night open for some flexibility. If we love it we can stay (somewhere, Tierra Maya where we're booked in for nights 2 and 3, is full), or head back to Mahahual, or just come back up to Playa. The history of the town of Xcalak is so interesting, but I wonder if it will ever really revive.

We are flying into Cancun on Nov. 12 and then heading over to Isla Mujeres for 4 nights.

After that we have booked at Club Yebo for 3 nights. I think we will probably go over to Merida for a week or so after that, but anything after November 18 is not booked, so we have some freedom.

Planning to fly back north on December 9

We haven't booked flights yet, but we plan to come down to Playa a week or so earlier than usual- around November 23rd. I believe Taste of Playa will be on the 24th so we want to attend that, and then we'll likely travel around for several days- I want to check out Isla Holbox this year.

We'll come back to Playa at the end of that week and catch some of the Riviera Maya Jazz Festival. I don't think they have announced the lineup yet but I am anxious to hear about it. Our newbie friends will arrive that weekend and we will stay in a beachfront condo with them from November 30th to December 7th.

We may try to squeak out a few more days traveling south after that- we'll have to see.
Harris (Tallyho) and Paul will be back during the same time frame as us.

I look forward to (hopefully) meeting you, roni, as well as a few other peeps we have narrowly missed over the years.

I am ready to stay down until December 9 - Kathy has her doubts about a month on vacation. We have a house/cat sitter arranged already

We're probably be in Merida during the Taste of Playa, but hope to meet you two and lots of others as well.

I hope so- we'll have to make it happen. And tell Kathy that the cats will still love you when you return.

I'm so sad!

This will be the first T.O.P. I will miss since they moved them to November. Michael really wants to stay home to spend Thanksgiving with his parents as they are getting up there in age and his dad seems to be slowing down a lot lately.

Looks like we will be staying in a two bedroom place at the Nautibeach Condos on Isla with a proud randomite and his wife.

Good thing we have stayed with them several times in the States and we got along all right

Got full-on approval to complete the planning. I told Kathy I did not absolutely have to stay for 4 weeks, that I would be happy to stay for only 3 1/2 weeks

4 sleeps Isla Mujeres
3 sleeps Playa
7 sleeps Merida
5 sleeps Mahahual/Xcalak - one on the way down
5 sleeps in Playa

Is the plan. The first 7 nights are booked, arriving on November 12.

Maybe I'll go do the PI calendar thing

Colleen asked me to look into stage 2, last night. Stage 1, 4 nights in Isla. Stage 2, 3 night somewhere. Playa or Puerto Morelos I would guess. I think that's it for us. 7 to 8 days, then back home. I am SUPER excited about Isla with you guys. I figure I have have some time to figure out the rest. So far, it looks like that red eye flight is still available and likely the one we will grab as well.

I can't tell you how much I am looking forward to spending time with you guys there, but we need more time!! I have been looking at the tripadvisor restaurant listings, and among old favorites there are some new, wonderful sounding places.

We have some time scheduled for down south - to me that means Mahahual / Xcalak.

Thinking about trying out the Mayan Beach Garden. It sounds and looks rather wonderful
