Completely, thanks again! I'm sure we will cross paths at some point! I look forward to meeting a few others here, especially some of the rude assholes who are nothing more than frequent tourists and insisting I must be naive - I will gladly pay for their taxi back to the airport when their vacation has come to an end!

Aside from their BS, I am still learning a lot from the handful of outgoing, welcoming people who understand my point of view.. If I run into you, I owe you a few drinks

Oops, gotta warn you about the language and name-calling, though. Not allowed here, our motto is Be nice. I know it's tough to feel someone's harshing your buzz, but I do firmly believe that most of the people commenting on this thread meant only to give you some reality and didn't mean to crush your dreams. Please don't take it too personally.

I did the same thing when I was 32, packed my dog and all my crap in the back of my jeep and drove to Playa from Toronto. I lasted two years but what an amazing adventure it was and I don’t regret it for a second. I spoke no Spanish when I went there but learned it pretty fast, mainly because I worked really hard at it though. I took a course and then studied a lot on my own and with Spanish speaking friends.

After two years, I found it was just a little too frustrating for me to live there forever so decided to go back to Canada. Things that had been easy in my life for 32 years suddenly became difficult and tedious and it began to wear on me. Also, unlike your situation, I didn’t have a job that allowed me to work from home so I struggled a bit flying back and forth for work.

I will say that it was one of the best times in my life and I made some incredible friends who remain my friends today. I consider it my "half-time" in life and I wouldn’t change a thing if I could do it over.

Good luck and remember to experience everything you can while you’re there, at the very least this will be an awesome adventure…

I also have a job that allows me to work remotely and have been considering moving to Playa. It seemed every time I asked a question about moving, my dreams were being shot down like you have experienced in your post. I wish you the best of luck. You'll probably have the time of your life. I'm still contemplating...
