El Asadero (Grill) - includes best tortillas in Playa!

This is a fairly new restaurant set back from the hustle and bustle (it is still open, in case you've heard anything to the contrary). They have an excellent range of grilled meats in all the usual styles along with jacket potatoes, pots of beans etc. The Arracherra Especial is not as dark or heavy as HC's, which some may prefer, but if you order the Arrachera Nacional it is just the same as HC's. My favourite is a selection of three meats stuffed into tortilla slices along with melted cheese, slurp.

Scooped ice cream, beers and fizzy drinks are available.

What makes it different? Well for starters the tortillas are the tastiest I've even had. They're freshly made to their own recipe. People also go there just to buy them for home. As fried chips they're excellent to accompany their properly made guacamole.

Secondly, it's a simple but peaceful outdoor environment, shaded from the sun surrounded by tropical planting. You can park outside or pay a few pesos across the street in a compound.

Thirdly, the prices are a lot lower than 5th Avenue.

Also, when he wears his glasses, the owner reminds me of Elton John wearing one of his centre parted wigs.

Open 7 days a week, 9am to 10pm.

25th Avenue between 2nd and 4th Street.

With the beach behind you go up Avenida Juarez to the Red Cross and turn right. El Asadero is one short block on the left.
