Part of the issue is demand. Just like over spring break prices go up, so to do prices at the end of the summer. I know with our kids by the time school gets out, summer camp is starting up. The only time we have to get away over the summer is in August. Since this is true for a lot of people, demand goes up and so do the prices.

gia....what are the dates you want to go? I can check the charter flights from Newark or Philly for you. Some are kind of high, some not so bad. Found one the other day for somebody, non stop from Newark for $426 in June.
Don't forget, you also have Spirit Air from Atlantic City. If your dates are flexible, you can switch it around and find something less than the scheduled airlines are charging now. Unfortunately, we Northerner's are not as lucky as those folks in TX who can do the Funjet and SunCountry flights. It's enough to make me think of moving there, just for the cheap airfare! It's just not fair I tell ya! :p And sorry Miss Jane, you don't luck out with a charter either (unless you go to TX!) |

I tried worry free vacations and found a flight leaving oklahoma city, flying non-stop to cancun, for two... around seven-hundred and fifty dollars. If your days are optional try flying out on a Wed. Compared to a Saturday departure date it saved us over two hundred dollars. Looking forward to celebrating the fourth in Playa!

Have you tried Sidestep.com? It searches all (not charter) flights and comes up with the least expensive, then I believe provides a link to the airline so you can make a reservation. From Los Angeles, the least expensive is a Mexican airline, Aviacsa. We lucked out BIG TIME for our flight the end of this month. $300 each roundtrip. Fare normally is around $450 from L.A. to Cancun on Aviacsa. ATA often comes up as less expensive than most.

One thing that I have noticed on the really low prices for the charters is that they generally apply to the next thirty days or so. Apparently, unlike the old days, the further in advance you book the flight the higher the fare. This is a problem for you making reservations (especially hotels). As Sunseeker said the current fair from Houston (IAH) is 129.00 but is only available for 4 or 5 days in April (same is true for Austin (AUS) and San Antonio (SAN). If we hit the end of May to rate jumps to $349+. August is also the major vacation month for Europeans to travel.

I'm flying Mesa from Enid Oklahoma to DFW then Suncountry to Cancun for $99 each way in June but watch out on any connecting flights because we booked early and Suncountry has changed flight times twice. One as much as 4 hours. Give yourself plenty of time between flights. 65 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OklahomaJack...that is a great price. I am in just south of you and am paying much more. I like my direct flight, but think I will look into Sun Countrouy. If I counted up correctly, you will be going around June 16....we leave the end of June. Have a good trip.

airfare
i travel out of newark airport also and agree that the airfare from our neck of the woods is very high. what you might consider is trying hotwire.com. we booked our flight to cancun for 398 p/p all taxes included. the drawback is that you won't know the airline or hour of your departure until immediately after you book. in our case we fly out of newark at 6:00pm with continental airlines...a direct flight landing at 9:00pm cancun time. my daughter, on the other hand booked her flight separately and got a u.s. air morning flight with a connection in charlotte arriving in the afternoon....just the luck of the draw. but they do use major scheduled airlines. this was the least expensive way that i've been able to find. good luck!

I've been looking for a while and it's true that booking earlier doesn't seem to make it any cheaper these days. We got Sun Country from Houston to Cancun for two persons round trip 645.00. That includes taxes, etc. That's about the best deal I've been able to find.
