Otherwise, we have many fond memories of watching Olympic hockey in that bar back in 2010. Great report!
Check it again, I think I fixed it.

Yeah, so I learned today that I can't type a TR in MS Word, and copy and paste it into the browser. I'm so sorry about that!

Day 5 -7/15/2012 (Sunday)
Iím not really sure why, but we were up early this morning. Again, we had nothing planned, so we took our time doing nothing.
Here are some sunrise pictures from our balcony.

After breakfast at Albatross, we spent most of the morning and part of the early afternoon just hanging around the beach in front of the GPR. Around 10:00 am, it started to rain a little bit Ė it wasnít raining hard AT ALL, but it was enough to send everyone running inside. This ended up being very cool, because we were able to score a couple of better beach chairs. Yay for us! Cow and Penguin also enjoyed the beach.

Penguin Selfie!

Our view before the rain:

Our view after the rain:

Sometime in the afternoon, we decided to get dressed and head down (south) on Fifth. We ended up at Senor Frogs. I had never been there, so even though it was touristy, we stopped for a couple of Margaritas anyway. These two Margs ended up being the start of a Margarita crawl back up Fifth. I remember stopping at 100% Natural, and a few other places, and in between Margaritas, we shopped. I was still obsessed with starfish earrings, and there werenít many to be found. We did pick up a few things for the kids before we went back for dinner. I honestly do not remember what we did this night, and I have no pics, receipts, credit card statement, nada.

We did have more towel art when we finally wandered up to bed.

Day 6 -7/16/2012 (Monday)

Our first anniversary started out with breakfast in bed:

Jim surprised me with the hotel's honeymoon package, which included massages on the beach and time in the spa room for just the two of us (they closed it off to other guests), chocolate covered strawberries, and champagne.

Cow and Penguin did their best to make sure we had some privacy.

For dinner, we went to Cancun and went on one of those dinner cruises. It may have been touristy, but the sunset was beautiful, and the whole experience made some wonderful memories.

Coming up: Snorkeling on our last full day

A funny story I forgot to share about yesterday:

We had a shared transfer back to the GPR from our dinner cruise. We were the first ones on and shortly behind us came another couple. They were younger than us, but also newlyweds. They both spoke with THICK southern drawl -- they didn't sound unlike Mater from the Disney movie "Cars." We waited a long, long time for the third couple (it was at least 45 minutes that we waited) with the man from the second couple becoming increasingly agitated. He wanted us to "just leave them," becasue "they'll find another way."

Jim is very, very good at diffusing situations like this, so he started a conversation with the guy.
"Hey, cool accent! Where are you from?"
"Pittsburgh."

DEAD silence. Remember the drawl.

"Oh, so you're Steelers fans?" (trying to find ANY common ground)
"No, we like the Raiders." We are Broncos fans, so this was the wrong answer. Dead silence again.

I asked where they were staying, and he says that they are staying at Dreams, and proceeded to tell us how wonderful the resort was, but he never should have left it because of low-lives like the people who were making us wait, and blah-blah-blah.

When the third couple finally finds us, they are apologetic, and Jim and I strike up a conversation with them. We visit for a while, and then this:

Us: "We are from Denver. Where are you from?"
"Pittsburgh."

I turn around to look at the guy from couple #2, and he looks positively PANICKED! My conclusion: he wasn't really from Pittsburgh.

We ride in silence the rest of the way.

Day 7 -7/17/2012 (Tuesday)

Our last full day in this place that I have come to love was the day that we did the last few things that I had been wanting to, but hadn't gotten around to yet.

First was breakfast in bed again, then Cow and Penguin helped us pack.

Our travel agency (Genie Travel) sends us on vacation with a genie, and instructions to bring them back a picture of us with him. If we do, we get to spin a prize wheel (for these pictures, we spun the wheel and got $100 off of our next vacation!)

Jim being silly:

Our last piece of towel art!

I wanted to capture a picture of a license plate, just because I think they are neat.

I have no idea how many Riviera Mayas we drank while we were there. A lot.

Pictures of the bathroom

We also finally found my starfish earrings, but for some stupid reason, I didn't take a picture of them.

We also went snorkeling this day, but most of my pictures from that turned out really bad. Here are the best ones.

Outside the water:

While hanging out at the swim-up bar in the afternoon, we met another couple who had just been married and were on their honeymoon. We ended up spending the rest of the afternoon with them, and having dinner at Maria's one last time together. And, it was the first time together. You know what I mean. Anyway, we still keep in touch now, and are trying to plan another trip together, but they have a baby now, and our kids are almost grown, so it has not been an easy task.

Day 8 -7/18/2012 (Wednesday)
Our last day.

I never knew it would be so hard to leave! It was a cloudy and overcast day, and that helped make going home a little bit easier. I had already confirmed that it was hotter in Denver than it was in Playa that day, so I knew we weren't going home to bad weather. It was just that we were going home, which I was not yet ready to do.

Begrudgingly, I watched the sun rise over the ocean one last time.

While eating our last breakfast at Albatross, I suddenly became aware of the details that I had missed, and suddenly I wanted to capture pictures of EVERYTHING!

Jim enjoying his last breakfast. Somehow, this has become one of my favorite pictures of him , ever!

Last picture of the pool

Last Mimosa (if you zoom in, you can see I'm wearing my starfish earrings)

Dreary Day

Cow and Penguin ready to go.

Last Riviera Maya (you can see my earrings in this picture, too)

Flowers

I love the song "Knee Deep" by Zac Brown Band, it is sort of my vacation anthem. Here is a picture of me "standing Knee Deep in the water somewhere."

Finally we had to go, and we just couldn't put it off any longer. With a heavy heart, we all bid hasta luego to Playa del Carmen.

I hope you enjoyed my trip report!! It was my first one, so be kind.

Just some random pics that I didn't include in the TR.

Cow and Penguin made new friends, too!

Great TR! I'm impressed you were able to relate so much detail more than 2 1/2 years after the event. Great job!

Thanks. There were a couple of things that attributed to the detail I could remember. First, i wrote down everything, and I took a lot of pictures. Second, I think your first trip is the most memorable. I saved everything from that trip, so if there was a detail I forgot (like our room number) I could go back and get it.

My second trip wasn't as detailed because we got so sick, and that overshadowed my memories of everything else.
