A Newbie saying Hello
First trip to Mexico. My husband & I will be celebrating our 10th anniversay at The Reef Club Playacar. I have read some conflicting info on this resort, but I hope we made a good decision for our first time in PDC. This will be my husband's first time out of the US & on a plane! Questions-Does anyone know how far Reef Club is from the town of Playa del Carmen? Any comments on the food at Reef Club?

Hi there....welcome!
Yes, you'll always hear things on both sides. We did to where we have stayed in Cancun and PDC...But we went knowing we were going to be in PARADISE and didn't let things bother us...not that much ever was in the position TO bother us.. You know - a well placed PM to Shammy, one of our All-Inclusive moderators would be a GREAT resource for you... |

Welcome
Hello, Congratulations to your husband for leaving the USA. One person I'm heading down with is also a first timer leaving the country.
Your only a couple minutes from town. PDC's 5th ave. (gringo alley) is a long road though so depending on how fast you walk it's probably 20 minutes to the top of town. have fun |

We stayed at Reef Club last year and really enjoyed it - as AI's go - it's smaller than alot of the others you'll see but at least you don't have to take a tram to the beach. The food was ok although nothing like eating in town - that's a whole nuther story - there's a few things that were kind of a pain - you have to get up really early - like before 8am or so to get chairs under a palapa - we finally figured out that when we came home from town at night (it was usually pretty late) we would grab a couple of magazines and walk 'em down to our favorite spot and leave them there - only once did somebody move them They have a really nice Italian res't that we enjoyed once, but again, you have to get up at the crack to make reservations for that night - usually before 8am - and they only take the reservations for that day only. Anyway - the grounds are really lush and beautiful and it's a more laid-back, not so dress-up kinda place - it's what we were looking for for our first trip and we have no regrets. This year we're staying in town and are really excited - it makes more sense for us since we were in town more than we were at the hotel. Let us know if you need any more info Deb & Robert |

OOPS - one more thing - we took a taxi always from the hotel into town - it's not a long way but long enough that we didn't want to bother with the walk - I can't really remember the fare - I think it was maybe $5 US one way - maybe a little less - DO take a taxi home if your coming back late - Playa is so safe - but anywhere you go a little caution is always a good thing.

You will love PDC! It is the most beautiful place in the world. I will be returning next year and have been these twice before. The water is aqua blue, the people are very friendly and there are lot's activities. This is my most favorite place in Mexico, if not the world. I've been all over Mexico and have a time-share in Mazatlan, but nothing compares to PDC...
Enjoy!
