$15/hour to flip burgers?

Fast food workers across the country are walking off their jobs this week in protest of what they describe as low wages and unfair labor practices.

$15/ hour is what they are demanding for their fast food job..story here.

I wonder if the $15 demand is an aim high strategy and they'd take much lower (as long as it was at least a bit more than the average of 7-8 bucks an hour)?

Good luck to them.

Paraprofessionals with a 2 year degree earn a starting wage of $10/hour at our school.

minimum wage is over $10 an hour here now.

But in some places people are making $15 or more at fast food and coffee joints. Calgary, Fort MacMurray. Supply and demand, they have to pay that to attract workers.....but not the case everywhere of course.

My 3 yr old grand daughter has a toy where you can match pictures. You know much like a fast food cash register.

We are doing interviews for the person to replace me when I retire in September. We've received resumes from people with Masters Degrees stating that they are willing to accept $25k ($12/hour) as an annual salary. Jobs in Florida are still very difficult to come by ~ especially for those just graduating from college, or for those who have selected a major that's not especially marketable.

Min wage is a bad joke in the U.S.Good luck to them.
Wages overall have not kept up with the cost of living, that maybe the biggest problem we have here in the U.S.

Oregon's minimum wage is $8.95 an hour.

That is $18,616 a year for someone working full-time

I know we have had this discussion before, over midnight cigars, but I am very much opposed to a higher minimum wage. If you don't have skills to climb the latter to a higher wage, get some. That's what I had to do. Everyone wants to start in the middle. $15.00 an hour to make a fastfood burger only leads to a $15.00 fastfood burger (and everything else.) I helps no one get ahead.

Kirbyfan, I think most paraprofessionals are underpaid. Our district starts them out at $12.35 a year. Sub paras get $8.50 an hour here. Amazingly, we have some wonderful people that will work for $8.50.

Unless you can freeze profit levels and 100 million dollar CEO bonuses, it never will.

Pretty much agree with this. I am fine with incremental increases.
