Great report so far! I too have not learned my lesson about drinking too much the night before the plane ride.

We LOVE Homewood Suites...

Still trying to pin down our next RPDC trip...gonna be in June again I believe...off to reading your report!

ps hope your dental work went well.
Thanks Pam! I meant to message you and tell you the first installment was up but it's been hectic at work.

We also love Homewood suites, the Grand was fun but once you're parked at the airport you can't really get out without spending money so it was a bit more hectic than we recalled but still a lovely hotel.

Doug agreed to a 4 night trip for Halloween that I was mere minutes away from booking and we both realized that a) his work schedule was going to make that impossible and b) we really don't want to stay shorter than 7 nights. We have zero set plans for vacation next year so who knows, we might see you and your husband in Playa! My husband turns 35 next June so maybe I twist his arm hard enough to celebrate at RPDC!

Thanks! Silly me thought I was solid since I was sticking to Patron but apparently too much tequila is still too much tequila. I rarely skip meals so you know it's bad when I don't eat breakfast the 1st day of vacation.

7/27- Normally Doug sleeps much later than I do while on vacation but since we went to bed so early last night we both woke up about the same time. I’m always the “what’s going on out there, hurry up, we have to go see everything…NOW” type of person but this vacation was a bit different for some reason. Maybe I’m starting to fully grasp the “relax you’re on vacation” mentality. I thought I was going to want to go to Pelicano’s and enjoy a breakfast on the beach but when Doug mentioned room service you would have thought I was a kid at a candy buffet.

Our 1st of many room service orders. Yes I had the “mixteca” for breakfast almost every morning which is essentially a beef quesadilla but it was yummy none the less:

After breakfast we take a short walk to the beach but didn’t take a camera. We enjoyed the quick dip in the ocean but at the end of the day we like looking at the beach more than we do being IN the ocean so we decided to go back to the quiet pool. The servers there don’t let your drink get very empty which we appreciate. We broke out the waterproof digital camera and started goofing around:

I didn’t want to post this picture but Doug insisted, he loves it. Please excuse the mascara under my eyes, apparently ‘waterproof’ doesn’t really mean that:

I’m not sure what it is with him and just floating in a pool but the kid can do it all day long. I like to sneak up on him whispering “light as a feather, stiff as a board” and pretend like I’m magically lifting him up with one finger. He doesn’t find it as amusing as I do:

I’ll be honest and say that our buzzes were very strong during today’s visit to the quiet pool. So strong that we didn’t really even want to get out for lunch but knew we needed to. We went to the El Med buffet and each had some soup but all we really wanted to do was get back to the pool and bottomless drinks so no pics of lunch.

30 minutes or so after getting to the pool we notice this lady walk up in a costume. Pam-this is kind of like your anti-climatic guy by the main pool. Of course with all of my liquid encouragement I walk right up to her and ask her what she’s doing. Her name is Katie and she’s part of the entertainment team, she says that they have to get dressed up and go stand around different parts of the resort to create an “experience”.

I quickly realized that I needed a picture with her in the background so here goes (and for the careful eye you’ll notice that my drink matches my bathing suit…sometimes I can get creative with how I order drinks):

Since my buzzed mind didn’t think her just being in the background was enough I decide to get out again and take a picture WITH her…I’m sure the other guests were getting a kick out of it. Excuse my goofy “I’ve had one too many” expression:

If so THANK YOU for recommending it…I probably had 30 of them throughout the week). Of course I couldn’t have a nice sweet frosty drink without some of the spring rolls to accompany it. And yes, there is one already missing from the plate, I ate it in maybe 5 seconds..don’t judge:

That's the drink! Only they were calling it a Guacamaya when we were there...glad you enjoyed them

Great start! Looking forward to the rest of the report

I just booked 6/11-6/19 for 2014! I'm super excited, we got an awesome rate saving $400 over last year! I swore I would not book early this year due to anticipation anxiety but just couldn't wait. I am so glad we did...I feel at peace now!

Can't wait to read more!

Omg!

Kelli, I literally laughed out loud at this installment.

First of all, you look great! Love the matching drink! It also matches her skirt!

The "floating husband" is similar to a picture I have of my husband doing the exact same thing. He claims it feels good on his back. I think it's the kid coming out in him.

I must have done something wrong with my "buzzes". I tried super hard but think the problem is that I ate too often!

Now that I've booked next years trip, I will make sure and NOT eat so often and try for the more intense buzz!

Kelli, what are those little white curly things on top of the shrimp tempura that look like worms?

It was like a fried rice noodle or something, kind of flavorless but I still ate them!

Where did you find your good deal at? I was soooo excited about the possibility of going back for Halloween but now I think I really just want to go back to Longer next year. Congrats on getting your trip booked, it gives me motivation to do the same for us!!!

Thanks for the looking great comment, my husband thinks I'm crazy because I tried to work on my 'wet look' but it didn't help much lol.

I just can't believe you didn't catch many buzzes! I had at least one good one a day but usually more than that since we'd start over for dinner. But yeah, we just didn't eat a lot this trip so that might be part of it. That's one of our main motivations of trying non-AI but we've gone from wanting to go for a quick 4 night non-AI followed by a week at RPDC later in the year to just staying longer & doing non-AI 4 nights, RPDC 6-7 nights then maybe coming back to RPDC later in the year again. Either way MyHusband is already mentally prepping for at least 2 vacations back there next year lol.

Yes she was, I had a long conversation with her after the martini tasting, she had me really inspired to pack up, move down there & join their team. I'd do the wobble, dress like a Mayan, whatever to work in a paradise lie that!
