Thanks We're excited to compare all of the differences...and I'm really excited about not feeling obligated to eat so much! We have free r/t airfare next year so now we're trying to figure out when to go. The hubby wants to go when it's a bit cooler but I know we both want warm pools so now I'm researching heated pools.

We have a week and we are doing what we want not compromise or doing something we don't want to do, just to keep the peace.
Did you stay in PDC?

Anyone please feel free to make non-AI recommendations. As of right now we're looking at El Taj and Aventura Mexicana but we also like funky little small places and don't mind being a few blocks from the beach but we do want a nice pool. Either way, can't wait to do another TR!

That was a fun TR, thanks.

You have definitely caught the PDC bug, we did AI our first trip, after that stayed in town and loved it 3 trips. Going back in Dec.

You'll be amazed how many great people you meet from this forum in town.

I'm starting to read more and more TR's, I just wish I would have found this earlier. I was reading one the other day of a beach bar crawl, that would have been PERFECT for my birthday so maybe I'll make up for it next year

Yes, El Faro both times rented reef 202 through VRBO, little expensive but right on the beach big pool and you can go from condo to pool to beach in under 2 minutes.

Thumbs up Awesome TR!

Kelli! So glad to read the final installments of your report! You did an awesome job!

I literally laughed out loud at the "Ho" picture and several of the others. What fun you all had, despite the "one off" days you had.

Before I booked our return trip to PCD for this next summer, I did some checking at the non-AI. I had my heart set on El Taj but think I'll have to do some more research. I'm a pool person and I don't think theirs is large. Of course, I don't need large so much as just a decent one. I haven't done enough research to find the perfect place for us. Hence the booking of RPDC for next summer. We too have some free r/t's and may use that for the next year and venture off AI. The deal we got recently was good enough to warrant another year of RPDC AI vs El Taj rates + eating + drinking expenses. We will get there though, I feel sure of it.

PS Ditto on the traveling with others. We were going to try it but decided otherwise. I would feel compelled to ensure everyone had a good time and would likely end up not having a good time myself. It's just best to be the two of you. Or with kids if that is the case.

Loved, Loved your trip report. Now that it's done, I'll have to go back and re-read the entire thing!

I agree. It's rare that I even look at the AI pages on here, but I enjoyed reading your report.

It's obvious from your photos and your comments that you will really love exploring Playa a bit more.

Happy belated birthday!

Thanks!! And yes my husband is very proud of the "Ho" picture. He's lucky that I have such a great sense of humor

We are being so wishy-washy about when to do non-AI. Doug wants to buy plane tickets and head down there for 7 nights with no hotel reservations sometime next year and I may just agree to that (assuming it's during a super slow time) but my sister's girlfriend is also turning 30 next April and they really want to visit RPDC so no telling where all we will end up. They would only stay for 4 nights given their work schedules so we might try to visit El Taj or Aventura Mexican for 3 nights before they get there. I realize I contradict what I said about not travelling with friends but I've travelled tons with my sister and know it would be ok, we'd basically be their guides when they had a question but we probably wouldn't see them much at all which is fine by us!

Thank you! I haven't stopped the birthday celebrations yet since I haven't been back to the gym since before vacation but you only live once right?!

First off Happy Belated Birthday!!!

What a great trip report.

As for non-AI, I think you will love it. That is all we've ever done. We have stayed at a different place each trip and we just love it. Sometimes hotel, sometimes a condo. But it is great nontheless!

As for the Bar crawl you might have seen... it is during May crazies week.
2014 is scheduled for May 3-10. It is a fun week... not too many things planned but enough to hang out with some great peeps and still enough pool/beach time on your own.

Thank you!!

We're still going back and forth between AI & non-AI for next year so my husband has now suggested we book RPDC for next April/May and tour some non-AI while we're there. We love so many that we see online but we really enjoy a nice pool and some of the pool pictures concern us.

Next year's April/May trip is up in the air, my sister and her gf would be there for part of it and they want to go in late March but we're not too thrilled about spending the extra $$$ for that time of the year so I'm trying to talk my sister into going for her birthday (5/9)...I might have to see what the May crazies week is all about...is that something that just started on this forum? My biggest regret from this last trip is not visiting all of the beach bars that we wanted.

May crazies week is what it was called this year. It is just a bunch of fabulous people who get together the first weekend of May..... We've been going for about 3 years now. Some peeps have been going longer than that. One year we did both a night time bar crawl and a beach bar crawl during our week there. This year was the beach bar crawl... although I'm sure some peeps got together for a night time bar crawl. Some of us also took a trip to Isla Mujeres this year. That was a lot of fun. We've also done day trips to Ziggy's Beach in Tulum, which are fun also. HTH
