Hola! Early planning for two month in Playa (June - July 2014)

I work online and my wife is currently in college. This gives us two months over the summer when we can travel anywhere with internet access. Next year, we're planning to visit Playa del Carmen for two months (June & July). I stumbled onto this forum while looking for information to plan our trip. Since I like to really dig into place I visit , I still have a lot to learn about Playa.

Already, I've found lots of useful information on this forum and I'm still digging through what's here. The main thing I would like to ask now is for links to some of the most useful parts of this forum or other sites with information about Playa.

Basically, what are your best resources for learning about the people, culture, customs, history, restaurants, tours, and general travel information in Playa?

Thanks for any suggestions provided here and I'm sure I will be adding more specific questions to other areas of the forum.

To do

Have you figured out what you're going to do? My family (wife daughter and I) will be in Playa June 29 to July 11. I plan on doing some diving with daughter, visit Tulum/Akumal for a day, Rio Secreto, dine at Alux, walk north of Constituentes(sp?) on the beach since we've never been north.

Other possibilities are Paamul for snorkeling and perhaps visit Coba (this would be hot and humid so probably won't do).

Dining; i've got a list of eateries i want to visit. Last time we were in Playa, we stayed at an all-inclusive and didn't eat much from the local establishments. that needs to change.

we're in our 40's and club scenes aren't really our thing (teen daughter will be with us all the time) but we'll sip a few drinks here and there.

Change of plans

Thanks for the reply bobsmartx,

My wife and I decided to change our plans after we realized how hot it would be in Playa during June and July!

We went to Tulum during a cruise excursion in November. If there's any way to locate a tour guide named Angel, we highly recommend having him show you around the ruins. He made the trip for us.

Instead of Playa, we're currently finishing up a week in Madrid. Then we're going to Izmir, Turkey for three more weeks before heading back to the US.

Playa is still on our travel list , but we'll try to get there in the winter months. January through March seem to be a good time to visit because it's not too hot. However, my wife is still in school and it's difficult to explain that she will miss two months of classes for vacation.

Culture in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen has a lot of tours, but not to many to learn about mexican culture.
The Playa del Carmen´s culture department presents a lot of cultural activities,
it´s name is Dirección de cultura de Solidaridad https://www.facebook.com/direccionde...aridad?fref=ts
There is a workshop of pottery from the north of Mexico, where you can learn how the precolombian indians use to do their vasils without technology. It is going to be given in Playa del Carmen from June 23th til june 28th. it is also given in English

this is a way to go back to basics!
