Bruce... glad to see you had a sweet time in New Orleans. It's definitely one of my favorite destinations in the US. Although the Marriott on Canal is more of a convention style hotel, you can't beat the location or the price, and the rooms are perfect. When I'm doing a cheap weekend to NO, I can generally bid it on Priceline for under $60.

Often there's a waiting list at Mr B's Bistro, but just popping in for the aroma is plenty rewarding. The food is absolutely fabulous! Like you, we always spend a fair amount of time at Acme Oyster House to get our oyster po-boy fix. For your next visit, put this place on your list--> Verti Marte - 1201 Royal

Quite honestly, I don't get Cafe Du Monde other than it's historic significance. I think I bring friends there just to see them get powdered sugar all over there clothes.

AND... I'm with Tappy. The street car photo is clearly my favorite. Last year during Jazz Fest, I spent one full night just capturing neon signage. Sadly, a fair amount of it is gentleman's clubs on lower Bourbon Street. The majority of those clubs didn't exist pre Katrina. Out of curiosity, which Canon lens do you typically use for your street shots?

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to bring New Orleans to us.

Jimmy

Thanks Loree! I've bought my share of Groupons for restaurants around here. I bought two tickets for a cemetary tour through Groupons for only $16, so that low price made it not to difficult to skip.

Thanks for the comments and the tip Jimmy. Pam is already talking about returning to do some of the things we missed.

That po-boy at Acme sounds tempting.

It would be interesting to see some of your neon sign images. I took a stab at some but I could just not get a perspective that was pleasing me. I did not think there were as many gentleman's clubs the last time we were there, and I wish those were music clubs instead.

Jimmy, because I figured I would be shooting people quite often on this trip I decided before heading down that the 70-200mm 2.8 would spend most of the time on the body. There were a couple of occasions where a wider angle would have been nice but I only wanted to carry one lens.

Here's an image I was playing with.

Loved your pictures, thanks for posting.
I love using Groupons everywhere I go!
Hubby and the kids loved Crazy Lobster. Too bad you did not enjoy it as much.

Headed back the first week of Feb. for business. I'll stop eating a week before I go just to make room for everything.

Got a nice little hotel, The Maison Dupuy, on Toulouse just east of Bourbon st. with a private balcony. I have to work, but my daughter and sil are coming along to enjoy the people watching from the balcony.

My guess is we will eat dinner after I get off work, then I'll call it a day, and they will stay out all night. I'm going a day early so I can show them around before I send them off on their own.

Should be great fun for them. And I'll enjoy some good food while I'm there.

I haven't been since a month before Katrina hit, so it will interesting to see what's changed.

Great pics. we are headed up there third weekend in Jan to see the Radiators at Tips, meet up w/ some Colorado folk, should be a good time as we really miss them since they broke up. Been close to 17 years since I have been, looking forward to it. Have to hit Cooter Browns, maybe Camilla Griil, although I have read it is not quite the same post Katrina and new owner.

Need to try not to party to hard at night so we can get out and check out the city. Last time was Mardi Gras and we were pretty much vampires

Thank you Lucy! I actually enjoyed my meal the Crazy Lobster, but Pam ordered the Lobster Pasta and it just did not live up to our expectations. It could have been just a bad night for that entree. That happens some times.

Sounds like it will be a great trip for you, along with some great music. I think it's hard not to party in that town. I am hardly a party animal, but Pam was ready to call it a night about 11PM on Saturday night, so I took her back to the hotel and headed back out until 3:30AM. The street was still going strong.

Have a great trip!

You sure are a good dad and BIL. I hope you get a little time to enjoy yourself and have at least one Hand Grenade.

I bought 2 "restaurant.com" vouchers today with airline miles. One for: Fiorellas. I love this place and have eaten there a few times. A little hole in the wall Italian/Cajun café right across the street from the French Market. $25 coupon. Must spend $50. (Drinks included.)

And another for: The Canal street Grill. Never heard of it, but the menu looks good at 1/3 the price. $50 coupon. Must spend $75. (Drinks included.)

Then the hotel I picked offered a FREE Jazz brunch for two at: The two Sisters" restaurant. A fancy looking place. Nice menu! I made reservations for 11:00 am for my daughter and sil. I'll be at work but, hopefully they will enjoy it. HEY! it's free! What's not to like?

The new posts on this thread got me looking at some of my trip photos again. Pam is in Mexico and I took the rest of the week off so I have all kinds of time on my hands, so I think I will post some more trip photos.

Ran into Steve Urkel...

Very nice! Keep them coming. I am excited about getting back there. It's a work trip, but I will have the evenings to enjoy. Not too late of course.

While walking around by myself Monday morning I came across some filming of a new Will Smith film. They were mostly shooting a crowd scene and I managed to blend in for a little bit until a crew member noticed my camera and very politely asked that I move on. The film takes place during Super Bowl weekend. The teams competeing are the Miami Theshers and the Chicago Rhinos.

I believe this is the oldest bar in America. At night it is lit only by candle light.

Thank you for viewing my photos.
