No... I usually get pesos up here before we leave but no coins. I'm not sure our debit card will work at an ATM . Mostly were tipping in US dolars . We usually bring a few hundred Can. worth of peso notes mostly in 20s &50s which get bulky .

A 50 and two 20s covers cab fare from Playacar - no coins needed

You know I understand what you're saying. But the reality is - if you take a taxi from a hotel in Playacar to town, or back, and pay with USD - you will (would have now) pay $7..or you can walk, whatever suits you!

Why not order a variety of notes. 500, 200, & 100 should do the trick. You will accumulate smaller as you go. Your ATM card should work. I have used both major banks but also credit union cards without issue and it is without a doubt the best rate. Or check with your bank and see what rate they are giving you on MXN. If it is no better than 11.50 than don't bother. Just bring Canadian and use a cambio to exchange as you need if you are concerned your card won't work. No point exchanging for USD.

You will be walking back to Playacar because no driver is going to take you from Playacar to Playa (or vice versa) for $6 or $7 USD.

(unless you can find one that doesn't do 10 to 1 conversion and by the time you find one, IF you do, you could have walked back and forth 10 times )

I agree. I took many a taxi back and forth in Playacar on my recent trip. Pay in pesos...period. At the new 90 peso fare it cost me a bit over $7.00 CDN. If you start exchanging CDN to USD with our current exchange and pay a taxi in USD at a 10 to 1......OUCH.

We stay at an AI so in reality don't spend a lot to accumulate smaller stuff ... was mostly for tipping etc. and the odd trip to town and even then its more people watching and a couple beers at Wah Wah etc.

We do have the Credit Union card and a Master Card "debit" card ... but your right .. no sense in doing US $$

From the airport to GPR, I think you'd be better off using a transfer company. It will be cheaper than a taxi, and take you straight to the hotel, instead of you having to schlep your luggage up 5th like you would if you took the bus. Just my opinion.

Would it be possible to get the taxi rate charge updated? If it is somewhere on here, I have missed it. Thanks
