Best Beach Hotel

We're going to be in Playa the last week of April 2014 and want to be on the beach. Thinking about Mimi del Mar - any comments, advice, opinions etc on Mimi or other hotels on the beach? We want to be able to bring our own drinks to the beach if possible. Thanks!

I think you can do much better for the $$

Try Pelicano Inn, Alhambra, Illusion, Playa Maya just to throw out a few

We've stayed at the Mimi del Mar 3 times and really like it. It's clean, quiet, and has a great location. It's not luxurious but we're fine with that. Not sure they'd appreciate you bringing your own drinks to the beach if you sat in their lounge chairs, though.

I adore Mimi del Mar. I know it's not modern, but I like the Mexican styled rooms, and it is so affordable! If you get a standard room, it's about $80 US plus tax, and you have a kitchenette, and you are right there on the best beach in town. As far as having your own drinks, we ordered drinks from the wait staff on the beach, and we also filled Bubba Kegs with mixed drinks from our room.

Thank you for the feedback - I think it's going to be between Mimi and a 2 bedroom condo at Xaman Ha if we can find another couple to go with us. Thinking we will end up at Mimi.

Playa Maya is the best. Very clean, nice staff, great food, reasonably priced.

No "full disclosure" disclaimers anymore?

$60 a night? I just looked for Feb and it was $141. Looks cute though.

Actually our room is $57 per night and it is an oceanview room on the 3rd floor.. 302 which is suppose to have a good view of the beach from the report I read on Trip Advisor ..
But you are exactly right that's why we booked in May plus it will be warmer for snorkeling and diving .. Low season has its benefits the same room is about $80-100 cheaper per night in May vs Feb..

We may also get upgraded to a Oceanfront room if 1 is available when we arrive.. A nice E-mail to the Manager about your reservations has its advantages sometimes

I was just looking at Casa Melissa on trip advisor - $60 /night our week. Looks nice. One comment on trip advisor mentioned paying for loungers there - does anyone know if you pay for them at Mimi? Would love to stay at Xaman Ha but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Casa Melissa is looking good!
