November 3rd SUNDAY

I went down to get us some front row beach chairs at 7:45. That was a pretty simple endeavor, since it was raining.

Angie had wanted to go diving today but with the rain we decided not to. (probably couldn't have anyways…)

Had breakfast at Playa Maya this morning. I had the delicious mashed potatoes again with refried beans, eggs and bacon.

After a brief nap we walked down the beach and ended up at Bad Boys. We quickly found we got along swimmingly with the bartender, Kjersti.

Kjersti

Her sister is a Musician in Spokane, so I’ve been trying to keep an eye on her facebook page to catch some gigs!. Trey the manager was very cool too. We had shots right away. Trey’s girlfriend, Sheri played the guitar beside us at the bar (started with Trailer's for Sale or Rent - I loved it! ).

was this Sheri's puppy…..? I don't remember....

I mentioned to Kjersti that I’ve always dreamed of one day being a bartender. She says, "well come on back lets see your mad bartending skills!" REALLY!?!?

Open mike was cancelled because of the weather. But, Mike Grabow showed up anyway with some friends and played the guitar and sang.

I was in heaven! Sand, Ocean, Bad Boys and MIKE!!

Which led me to start drinking excessively!
Which led me to forget to take any more pictures.
Which led me to buying a few too many rounds for the house (and myself).

We made it “home”. I threw up. .......and was passed out by 6pm.

(I meant to add this follow-up to my last day's report, but forgot...)

We didn't bring the kitten home.

We are pretty sure that one of our dogs (or maybe the pack?) may have killed one of our cats in 2011. It's possible the cat died of natural causes, but it didn't look good. Our other cat seems to do okay with our four dogs, but we thought better of bringing a new 3 legged kitty into the mix.

We were sad we had to make that decision and we donated the amount equal to what it would have taken to get the cat back to the States to Laura....

You did the right thing a ad then more! Laura and I have a deal, she agrees to not let me adopt a kitten when we visit! Otherwise, we have 4 or more cats

Okay. So, I figured I better finish this thing up before it's October agian!

Nov 4 MONDAY

After 12 hours in bed we ventured down to Del Chango again and both had the same thing as before. We got caught in a torrential rainstorm on the way back. No umbrella, because we left it at Bad Boys during yesterday’s drunken stupor. We hit the ATM for some cash and decided we’d head to Cozumel to snorkel.

At the pier

We ended up getting roped into booking with someone right there at the terminal before crossing. We hadn’t planned on doing it that way, don’t which is the best way to get the best price (like if we should’ve waited to pick someone after we got over there…).
It seems like it’s always a rough ride when we make the trip across. Angie got a little queasy.

Getting on the Snorkel Boat

The snorkeling was okay; not tremendous. We snorkeled 3 sites. It bugged me how close the guys wanted to keep everyone together. If you’d drifted off, even 10 or 20 yards, they’d yell at you to come back with the group. It cost 87 dollars (or 1133 p) for the two of us and we got beers on the way back…..

I have a compulsion to stop in every Hard Rock we cross paths with, so it was there we had a late lunch. It was our first good meal at any Hard Rock ever (and I go them ALL) – I’m a glutton for bad overpriced food. Okay, we mainly drink our meals at Hard Rocks during Happy Hour, so there .

I had a barbecued pulled pork sandwich which with fried jalapenos that was DeeLish.

But Angie’s “Legendary Burger”, which was advertised as a 10 ounce patty, was at least an inch thick! It was a REALLY good burger. I’m thinking of making the 44 dollar trip again just so I can have one!

Near as I can tell our bill at the Hard Rock was 45 bucks before tip, but I don’t remember how many beers we had. Got my obligatory HR Cozumel t-shirt and we were out.

The ride back “home” was another wavey one. We were in for the night after that. Watched the 2nd half of the Packers Bears game.

Nov 5 TUESDAY

Torrential rain all night. I thought it had cleared up at sunrise. But it started raining again. Hard. Breakfast was good. The bacon and eggs came with sausage today

Drank mimosas and beers under the Playa Maya palapa; talking with other guests. Watched the rain.

Headed down for beers at Wah Wah. Willie was there. Shar was working. Lunch at La Tarraya - nothing to write home about. The ceviche was okay but the Tarraya Special Sauce Filet (can’t find the picture), was just too soft and mushy for my taste. Shopped for some gifts. Later we had pizza and drinks back at Wah Wah.

We were talking with Sheri when Willie showed back up, so we drank some more The bill for 2 pizzas (260p), 2x2 Margarita (100p), 5 draft beers (20p each), 1 Indio beer (30p) and a vodka (Smirnoff 65p) only came to 445 pesos. For some reason the bill had a line on it “Open $ discount 130.00”. Cool. I could really get used to prices like this!

The Bill

Shar was done with her shift, so we all went down to “Off the Vine” to watch (and listen to…..) Mike play.

This is me Loving my new Mike Grabow CD:

Luis, singer and guitar for Nasty Bastards, us and Shar finished the night off at Dirty Martini.

Nov 6 WEDNESDAY

Sat on the beach ALL day.

I may have already included this pic….. they begin to all look very similar….

Playa Maya Fish Tacos

Playa Maya Ceviche

~~~Pretty Colors~~~
We leave tomorrow, so we went by Bad Boys for last beers there and to say good bye. Trey was there, Kjersti was not.
Went to Wah Wah. Gave Shar our remaining wine.
Tonight we could not help but to go back to Oh Lala AGAIN for our best dinner EVER! Mikaela was as precious as before. George was great at selecting our wine once again. Angie had Soy Tuna steak-medium rare over mashed potatoes. I had lamb shanks with mashed and beans. Michaela even brought us an “Anniversary Dessert” again!
Soy Tuna
Lamb Shanks
The kitchen
I love how Mikaela roles the bill up in a ribbon and delivers in a wicker box.
So, I rolled up the money, tied it with the ribbon at left it in her wicker box!
The Bill
We stopped at Siesta Fiesta to watch Mike for a bit.....
Nov 7 THURSDAY
We got packed. Went down for our last breakfast on the beach.
Here’s the views……
Our Beach Bar tab for the whole time was only $269 I LOVE Playa Maya !!
CARM transfer was right on time. Got in the airport no prob. Bought some trinkets for some folks. Went in and sat down at Bubba Gumps. The Fish and Chips was almost 20 bucks! No way we're pay'n that! So we downed our two draft Coronas for $11.74 instead. We’ll show them! We went over to Johnny Rocket's for some cheap fast food.
2 Coronas, 2 Double Cheese Burgers, 1 pop and a fry (I don’t even think it was a large…..): THIRTY FIVE BUCKS!
Hey, at least we got a ketchup smiley face to send us back to the States……
The End
Thanks!
I just noted the slight "pained" look on my face in the last selfie pic inset.
That's the pain I endure every time I try to take a selfie! .......which is virtually NEVER..!
Love your trip report.....
looks like an awesome time. Has the menu changed at Playa Maya? I sure hope the paella is still on there.
I never did look at a menu (we just have the ceviche and the tacos - and breakfast, of course), but I don't believe it changed at all. I'm not 100% sure tho....
