The 12 Days of............ HALLOWEEN?!?!

Yes, it's taken me this long to get my TR started. So...... HERE GOES!

This will be a recap of our Twelve Nights at Playa Maya over Halloween.

But first I'm going to start off by boring you with our Pre-Trip glitch. Our first flight was Spokane to Seattle. It was a 10:30am departure and we'd been having lots of morning fog. Hadn't thought much of it since we were a later morning flight, but should have! Sure enough, our flight was canceled. The incoming flights were not being allowed to land. The flight from Portland, OR - scheduled to land just ten minutes after our incoming plane - LANDED. But, not ours. That meant the only available fight wouldn't get us to Seattle till 9pm! Not a deal breaker, since we didn't fly out to Cancun till the next day, but still. That much time in airport bars could definitely affect the trip budget!

So..... on to Plan B.

Needless to say, the trip didn't take much longer than the flight would have!

Oop. Boss is at my door. Back to this later.....

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one chomping at the bit to see the rest of this TR!

Uh oh, do you think he got busted and is looking for a new job instead of entertaining his fans on PI?

Alright. Alright.

I know we just want to get on with the Palya Action. But, our second trip glitch was so traumatic, it's worth a mention.

I got a United MileagePlus VISA card for the sole purpose of getting the 2 annual passes to the United Club Lounge. After our Red-Eye out of Seattle on Saturday night (Oct 26th/27th) we had a 5 hour layover in Houston. We were to arrive in what I used to think of as "The Great State of Texas" at 4:48 am. And yes, in addition to enjoying the free coffee, breakfast, & showers...... the free booze was the MOST anticipated!

While the Presidents Club Lounge was nice, I guess I should have done a thousand and ONE hours of research for this trip (cuz the 1000 hours I put in apparently was insufficient!)
I found in no time that Texas forbids the sale of alcohol on Sundays until NOON!! AAAAaaarrrgh!

We made the quick hop over to Cancun sober and quickly found our driver outside the airport; holding up a sign with my wife's name on it (1st time we'd had that, and we thought it was kinda cool....). I wish I woulda got a picture, but, remember, I was sober, so I wasn't thinking straight!. I used CARM (Cancun And Riviera Maya Transfers) as our roundtrip transfer. They are recommended by Laura at MapChick.com. It was $105 for roundtrip to Playa Maya + 8 bucks for the 2 SOLs and 2 Dos Equis the driver had waiting for us on ice!
I did, however, have to tell the driver how to get to Playa Maya (after he was going to drop us on 15th Ave at about 4th..... ), and encouraged him passed the policeman that stops many vehicles from crossing 5th Avenue on the way down 8th to the beach.
We drug our luggage across the sand (no bellhops races to greet us) and were FINALLY back at Playa Maya!

It was probably about 11:30 in the morning, and our room wasn't ready. We headed straight toward those loungers shown above and quickly devoured some Fish Tacos and Ceviche on the beach; along with a few Margaritas!
DELISHOUS! (but, sadly, no pictures. I bet you wouldn't have to look around to hard to find a few hundred pics of the Playa Maya fish tacos, however.... )

Some views of our walk on the beach south of Playa Maya....

Looking South

Looking North

Walked up Juarez and got 6000 pesos (no fee withdrawal for BofA accounts) at the Santander just past 20th on the right. BTW, the ATMs often say a 2500 or 3500 limit, but they don't really mean it in my experience....

Margaritas at Wah Wah Beach Bar. The bartendar, Danielle was very nice.

Do we look happy?

Back at Playa Maya, got into our room 301 (I think 302 might be slightly better for the view, but no complaints)

First picture of the view from our balcony!

Walked back down to Wah Wah in a torrential rain storm for Cowboy John's Pig Roast. $7.50 for all you can eat! It was very good; and of course we had more margaritas and some of their cheap draft beer. I think it was 20 pesos a beer, or something like that. I'll look it up later (edit: Yes, it was 20).

Back to Playa Maya and a few vodkas in the room with some Mexican Animal Planet. (okay, it was American Animal Planet with Spanish sub-titles....)

Asleep by 8. I don't think we'll do the redeye next time. ugh.

Ha ha!

Loving your pictures so far. Oh, and sorry about the snafu in Tx, that would have totally depressed me

Happy New Year! We were invited to the local Filipino American NYE party this year and I am soo excited! Our neighbor is Filipino and we went to her 60th birthday party and had a blast - great company, lots of dancing (even a traditional Filipino dance in her honor, so beautiful!) and ahhhmazing food

We had a fabulous time last night and I wish you all could have been there, whole roasted pig and at least 50 other traditional dishes! I tried small amounts of as many as I could get on my plate and skipped dessert. We only knew our neighbor and one other person who I worked with at Bausch & Lomb. But we saw lots of familiar faces from the birthday party and met many new friends. I say there were 200 people there. We sat with our neighbor and her friends and before I knew it, I sipping Filipino rum on ice. Her friends are bad influences.....and I feel it today. Lol!
