Havent stayed there yet but staying at the Gala in November, everything I read on this resort says it is the best beach in Playa, (it is right next to the Tucan, but all the reports says it is much wider than the beach in front of the Tucan).

Totally agree w/Barcelo having the nicest beach. We went there 2 years in a row. The resort on our last visit showed a lot of wear so we decided to try another. We are booked at the Lindo for May. The beach is not as nice from what I understand, but the pools, lazy river & wave pool sound very appealing!

BARCELO MAYA, been 2 times. Was just in Playacar and swam in front of the Tucan, RIU's, The Gala and even south of the resorts. The beach is a beautiful colour and sandy bottom. But when we were there the water was very rough, the whole beach is very busy. No snorleling.
So my answer to a great natural beach is again BArcelo Maya, its protected by the angle its on, so the water is usually pretty calm, and if its not calm on the main beach its always calm to the far north beach, sandy bottom, lots of great snorleling all around. Lots of beach chairs, pool chairs. Beautiful!!!!!!! Pictures if you want to see of the north beach, and some of the main beach too. www.ezlogichosting.com/barcelo/ And other pictures of the jungle paths of Barcelo. Were going back soon for a 3rd visit. Playa is too busy for us. |

Just back from Barcelo. The beach is long, wide and beautiful! The North and South ends are very private and you can have the entire area to yourself. Or stay in the main area for activities, your choice. Never had problems with rocks. The North end has rock edges where there are some tide pools and great snorkeling. Friends visited us from Copa and Xpu-Ha and liked Barcelo Beach better.

I personally like the beach in front of the RIU's in Playacar. It was very crowded last week when I was down there, but if you don't like the crowds, just walk 15 minutes south, and you'll have the beach to yourself. Very nice. Water was a bit rough for the past few days, but nothing really bad like Cancun. It's usually quite calm. No real good snorkelling around there. I go to Yal-Ku lagoon or one of many other locations for my snorkeling anyway.
