AI with 14 yr olds
You could try Apple Vacations, but there are not to many that offer a kids stay free plan and the ones that do usuallly cut off at 10 or 12. Either way, if its just you and the two 14 yr olds, you will probably have to pay for one of them as an adult to get the other free. Being a part time travel agent, I would recommend that you get an agent doing this leg work for you as it will not cost you any more than if you did the research yourself. Given what I have read on this board and knowing the AI plans as I do, your best bet may in fact be to get a non AI in town, or get an agent to find you a resort with a Euro plan. It is going to be difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. I for one would love to hear how you make out. Drop me a line and let me know.

There are no AI resorts that will allow 14 year olds to stay free. Some even consider them adults and if there were 4 of you traveling, you would be required to get 2 rooms as for these hotels, 4 adults in one room is not allowed.
However, there are still hotels that will allow 4 to a room AND hotels that will give the kids a junior rate. Junior Rate: Moon Palace Xpu Ha Palace (for a 7 night stay, these two resorts give about $1,200 off the adult rate for the kids depending on the season) Palladium (about $200+ off the adult price) Gala Resort Playacar (a little less than half off the adult rate) Accept 4 to a room (and will give a quad rate): Iberostar Lindo Iberostar Tucan Iberostar Pariaso del Mar Barcelo Maya Copacabana Viva Azetca Viva Maya Hope that helps. ![]() |

I hesitated to say flat out that there are no AI's that would allow 14yo's to stay free until I was able to double check, but I fully believe it. I am not even sure that you could pull this off in Punta Cana which always has some resort offering "kids stay free".
I think if it were me, I would try to stay at one of the non AI's in or near town. Actually, I am planning on taking my son for his 16th birthday, and that is what I will probably do. |

It looks like in Playa (at least with Apple) the cutoff is kids 12 and under that can stay free, but that is only during certain timeframes. Just thought I would offer that up for anyone else that may have younger kids. Some of those are (sorry if I list the same one Shammy did);
IB Paraiso Del Mar - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 5/1 - 12/15/04) IB Tucan - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 5/1 - 12/15/04) The Palladium Grand - Families of 5 may share a junior suite with existing bedding (two adults and three children ages 12 and under) Bahia Principe Clubs and Resorts - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/27-6/15 & 8/16-12/15/04) Palace Resorts - Kids 12 and under stay, play and eat free at Moon Palace Golf Resort or Xpu-Ha (valid 6/1-8/31/04) Allegro Playacar by Occidental - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/11 - 12/23/04) Paradisus Riviera Cancun - Kids 6 and under stay, play and eat free Copacabana Beach Resort - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/12 - 12/23/04) Gala Beach Resort - Kids 11 and under stay, play & eat free (one child per adult, valid 5/1 - 10/31/04) Cameleon Marival Riviera Maya - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/12 - 12/20/04) Club El Mandarin - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/11 - 12/04) Viva Wyndham Azteca - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free Viva Wyndham Maya - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free The Reef at Playacar - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/13 - 12/23/04) Oasis Akumal - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/1 - 8/31/04) Caribbean Village Playacar - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 4/11 - 12/23/04) Robinson Club Tulum - Kids 12 and under stay, play & eat free (valid 5/1 - 8/25/04) Disclaimer: These are from the Apple Mexico 2004 catalog. I cannot guarantee that all the information above is correct (typos?) but that is how they are listed in my copy. |

I guess I can't say as I blame them for charging 14 year olds as adults. I know when I was 14, I ate like a horse. Still do, I guess. Although, do they make allowances for the 14 year olds not drinking alcohol??

Kev--Yes booked as 2 rooms. Since they are charged as adults (up to 2yrs old-free, 3-12 are $25. per day if sharing room with 2 adults), they are in a room next to ours. This is from Oasis resorts home page but as a fellow travel agent you know there are thousands of specials and offers available out there you just have to look or get an agent to look for you. So...this trip they are small adults! T

If there are three of you sharing a room with two beds, you might
want to think about bed size. We've stayed at Viva Azteca twice and the Viva Azteca rooms definitely have two queen size beds - better than forcing two siblings or a parent and a kid share a double bed for a week. Just a thought. |

playa del carmen~ teenagers

I would like to treat my teenager sons ages 15 and 16 to a vacation in Playa Febuary 2006. Can anyone recommend a AI or hotel best suited for two teenage boys? They are always hungry! I thought maybe it would be best to stay at a AI close to town. Trying to balance the room rate, activites, and food bill. The three of us could share the same room...thanks for your advice! |

AI's within walking distance to Playa that won't break the bank (depending on how strong your bank is!): North of Playa: Reef Coco Beach Shangri La Caribe (not totally AI, only breakfast and dinner included so might not be exactly what you want for two hungry kids). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Playa (sort of): Gran Porto Real (not my favorite place but... )~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In Playacar (might not be able to walk it all the time but a very short cab ride away): Viva Maya Viva Azteca Reef Club Playacar Riu Tequila ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More expensive in Playacar (so depends on your budget): Gala Playacar Riu Playacar or Yucatan (Yucatan is being renovated, which is a GOOD thing!) IB* Tucan/Quetzal And don'tcha know, the Playacar Palace might even be open by Feb (but that's anybody's guess!)! ![]() |
