First Timer

Hi all my name is Dave and this will be my first time in mexico going to playacar viva maya from 3rd -17th may. I am 55 but never left my thirty,s. This will be my first Holiday in 7 years having recently split from a long term relationship.. and decided i need a holiday BIG!! time I'm coming from Scotland where the sun has not shown its face for 4 months I intend to do a lot fishing!! and of course being a Scotsman to partake of the local alcoholic beverages just to see if they are up to standard off course .. Any advice on watering holes for us mature but not yet looking to retire people would be appreciated as i am not big on sitting around AI resorts watching the same shows nightly regards Dave

Welcome!

Wah Wah Beach Bar.
2nd Street and the beach.
Not that far from you.

Or Bad Boys, between 2nd and 4th on the beach.

Or Dirty Martini, on 1st Ave between 10th and 12th.

Where will you be fishing?

I agree with these recs, especially Wah Wahs.

Also there are some peep meets (playa.info member get togethers the week of the 3rd - 10th or so if you interested.) Check out the Peep Stuff section.

Thanks for the reply babaloo.. I am a bit of a wanderer by nature and having read that its quite safe around town if you have your wits about you. I will certainly partake of your recommendations . :I hope to take in some of the usual tours, xcaret, talum, cozumel ect and what others may suggest ..And don't mind jumping on the local transport.. As for fishing i,m a fanatical fisherman and will spend most of my free time as long as its not to hot!! remember we have not seen the sun here in Scotland since september fly fishing and spinning my way around any shoreline where recommended.. I also want to take a few boat fishing trips number will be dependent on cost ect All info on fishing would be greatly appreciated as a solo traveler i will prob search about for others to share costs of fishing, or even company for fishing trips excursion tours, day trips not to forget the pub crawls!! ect. I,m a likable fun kind of guy (so i,m told).so dont mind tagging along with other like minded people I only booked this holiday 1 week ago so trying not to get to carried away to soon.. ps was going to go for one of them coundown day,s to go but i dont think i could handle it..

If you actually want to catch a fish, you'll probably have to go out in a boat.
Shore fishing sucks here.
But, if you just want to relax and wet your line (and not worry about catching anything)' then the beach will be fine.

Dave, being an avid fisherman myself as well as coming to Playa on Feb. 19th, I've been doing a little research. I talked to Captain Rick's and can do a shared trip. It's $110 for four hours. I'm hoping to get out a couple times.

Hi Snowman,

We fellow Canucks (call us the Brady bunch) will be at the Feb 21 pub crawl and can't wait to meet everyone. I'm sure my brother will be interested in talking to you about a fishing trip, oh & probably hockey.

Until then...

That sounds great ! I'm going on my first charter on the morning of the 21st, but am planning to do a second one. All for talking hockey as long as it doesn't involve the Leafs or Habs...... J/K ! All hockey talk is welcome !

Well, we arrived in Playa at 9:00 pm last night. Had a great day today. Beautiful place. Found the humidity a little hard to deal with this afternoon, but still very happy to be here. Currently at Wah Wah's waiting for the Nasty Bastards to start playing.
