I subscribed to this post as soon as you started it. Thank you for sharing, we won't make it to Playa this spring but I lived vicariously through your report.

That was awesome. Thank you.
I'm interested in Puerto Morales now. Where exactly is it? Before you get to Playa or after? How far from Playa? It certainly looks like a nice little spot.

It is about 15 mins or so from the airport, so maybe about 1/2 hour from Playa. Depending on who is driving of course!

I just re-read your fantastic report! Very excited as we are making a change this year and are going to PM this year. After last years stay in Playa and the very crowded beaches we felt like we needed a change. Your report played a huge roll in our decision. I'm looking forward to your report this year! Are you there now? Have a great trip!

We stayed at pm in the past and really enjoyed it. The walk to the beach and town is fabulous. If you get a chance could you please pm me the contact information for renting at the Cabanas. Thanks again.
Also have you ever gone to the Jungle Spa?

Road to the beach

There are a few options to get there and back. Going down we took the ADO…72 pesos…to the ruins and then walked…20 mins…into the beach. As soon as you crest this last hill on the way you in the see the spectacular colour of the sea.

The beach here is long, wide and flat. It is not crowded and very quiet except for the sound of the surf. Not too many people either. We strolled along the beach and decided to make Playa Paraiso beach club our base for the day. 50 pesos for a lounger with umbrellas and access to the washrooms and showers.

They have very good food and drink options as well...menus conveniently located on the trees.

Beers were ice cold at 35 pesos per but the Dos Equis we ordered came in cans…not a problem for me but I know some people prefer bottles…we also ordered up fish tempura…110 pesos…shrimp quesadilla…115 pesos…while Len and Carol had some sort of mixed plate with shrimp, beef, chicken, cheese, pablanos, etc and came with tortillas…I think in the neighbourhood of 245 pesos ?

The food was very good although you do pay a little bit of a premium to be on the beach with no other available options. We spent the rest of the day in the water, wandering the beach and laying around.

The water colour and clarity here is amazing…an example with these two gopro shots…

To get home we took a taxi from the area right behind the beach club into the town…70 pesos…and were dropped at the ADO station. We timed it perfectly as the next bus was only a ten minute wait. Travel time between Playa del Carmen and Tulum is about an hour but well worth the time it takes. We had a great day…again…...sonofdob

I've been to the ruins before, but do not know where this road is to get to the beach. Can anyone give me a little instruction/direction? I'd greatly appreciate it!
