Hola Amigos! We are back! Everything you read about the Mayan Palace on this board is correct. The resort is only about 40% finished and we where told by resort employees that it will take 4 years until 100% completion including the golf course and water park. Basically, from any room you will have some kind of construction view and some noice. We had asked to be far away from construction so they put us in Building 7 hotel unit 2083. We where okay with this because it was far away from the "big" construction lobby building and most noice.
However, there was a smaller building under construction. There left a little nature and little ponds and there where lots of birds in front of our window at least. The resort will be beautiful (but to big for our taste) when finished but I would wait a couple years before you go there unless you got a great deal like some of us. The hotel unit was like any 4 Star Hotel in the US and comfortable but that's it. AC worked great. We ended up only staying 3 nights because there was just to much construction for us. The pool area is huge and beautiful nothing wrong there. Both swim up bars where open and the Restaurant by the Pool was open as well. The Restaurant by the beach was open completly part of the time and than they started construction and only a side part was open. Not very relaxing. We had breakfast there one morning and that was the only meal we had at the resorts besides guacamole and chips on our first afternoon.
The large Palapa Bar area on the beach was great. Sand Floor with dance floor stage, great sound and light system, hammocks and sand on the floor. They did a nice job there.
We only where at this Bar one night and no one really started the party so fairly boring compared to PDC. The Beach was large with Shade Palapas and we thought it was very nice even so the sand looked like they trucked it in. They left the rocks in the ocean which is very good for the environment. Swimming right in front of the resort was not possible but there where nice little tide pools to look at. You can walk to the north or south along the beach and find nice swimming areas and we loved how pristine and private it was there. Plus the pool is fun to swim in with a comfortable temperature. Over all, we had a nice comfortable stay there for 3 nights but where glad to get away from the construction noice and ugliness after that. A big project like this brings tears to your eyes thinking about the environment. We met several people that own at the Puerto Vallarta Mayan Palace and they where disapointed that it was not more finished. However, everyone loves the Riviera Maya and several people rented cars after they got there. We met Merk the first day and could never find each other again. I think she was off exploring just as much as we where.
