Got a Few Questions...Going to Viva Maya in June
Hey, my hubby and I will be spending a week at Viva Maya in June. Which buildings/rooms have the best location? We would like to be able to walk out on the balcony/patio and see the ocean. Also, which tours/excursions would you recommend? (We are planning to visit the Ruins while there.) Did you book (tours/excursions) through the hotel?

Just got back from the Viva Maya and we were in rooms 2227 and 2223. 2223 is a ocean view room but we could not see the ocean for all the palm trees in front of us. I'd recommend the room because it was by the stairs leading right to the theater, snack bar, and pool.

room requests
First number is 1 or 2 (right side or left side of pool), 2nd number is the floor you are on, (1, 2 or 3) and the last 2 numbers are the room number. the lower the number, the closer you are to the beach, like 1101 or 2101 are ocean front on first floor. I would suggest requesting a third floor room for the best chance of a view. We were in 1112 and would have been ocean view but for the trees, above us would have been great.

I forgot the other part of the question. We went to Tulum and Coba in one day by renting a taxi for the day. it was $110 for the whole day for 3 of us and we could do what we wanted on our own time schedule without a group. It was really nice. We didn't book anything through the hotel. We went to XCaret and Xel HA both booked on their web site witha 10% discount and was much less than booking a group. Book without transportation. getting a taxi is much less.

Well, Tyler, I got home 3 hours ago (it was a 24 hours trip for me therefore the difference in the dates).
I had room 1212 and could see the ocean between the palm trees. It was a good room, near to the beach and far away from the disco. The Viva Maya is not a bad ressort, the staff is friendly and the activities they offer are widespread. There are shows or games every evening (I didn't see them as most of the time I was too tired and slept while they were going on). Food is okay. But never let any of the food unattended on a table (for going to get drinks or something like that) as the birds will come immediately and eat your food. What I didn't like at all was the fact that you had to go and put your towel on a chair before 7 am if you wanted a place in the shadow under a palapa. As I am very fair skinned I needed a place in the shadow and was forced to participate in this ridiculous game (what's worse is that a lot of people spend the day at the pool and don't even use the chairs... )I booked the FAT CAT tour, a trip to Xel Ha and my trip to Isla Contoy (see in the general section, I wrote there about it) at the Viva Maya as I had booked the ruin-tours already with Anna. As I said the ressort is not bad but I did spent half of my time outside. In the evenings I went to Playa often as I very much liked the bars there. If you have any questions, just let me know. Regards, Andrea |

My favourite one was the Frida Bar on 5th. But the Tequilla Barrel is right across the street from Frida and doesn't seem bad either. The ****** is nice for evenings without much wind as it is right in the beach. DESEO is a bar which I just had a look on (on 5th too) but it seemed funny stuff to me as well. There were a lot of other bars which seemed nice to me but I don't know their names, I just saw them.
Don't book a "bar-tour" for 45 USD in the ressort though, just grab a taxi and go to Playa and have your own experience (it`s much better and MUCH cheaper by the way) |
