I am the other party! I got the same email. I am disappointed, but also understand that renovations need to be done in the slow season. I too have air travel booked so can't change our dates without paying more $. This was going to be our first trip to a non-all inclusive. Not sure now what we will do, but will certainly look forward to staying at Playa Maya in the future.

I saw Sue's recommendations here and had a quick stay at Mimi del Mar. Loved it and I am looking to stay there for a bit next January. Good prices for right on the beach and the staff were very nice. Loved the little outdoor patio area and having a kitchenette.

I also stayed at the Mimi based on Sue's recommendation; in fact, we stayed there for three years in a row! It's not quite as fancy as Playa Maya but we liked it.

Thanks for this.

Oh, hadn't heard back from you yet but I guess now we have! So sorry to you, too! I guess alternate dates are not feasible for you, either? Well just drop us an email reply or something and we can proceed accordingly...

Yes, and the price isn't as fancy either.

I too had remembered Sue's recommendation of Mimi del Mar. Took a closer look at it when we were down last week. Looks a bit dated, but that location is pretty perfect. If the price matches I could see us there in the future!

Mimi del Mar was on our short list before so it looks like it may move its way to the top. My only concern is a room with a view. Don't really want 2 beds. We discussed Tulum but it's really pricey and im afraid my wife may get a little bored after a few days of nothing but beach.

I'm sure we'll be there one day too. You never know; they may even cut us in for a nice discount.

Harsh? Reservation made and then cancelled. Offer to change the dates but not to help book elsewhere is what I read.

¿Harsh?

Jajajaja

Reasonable, I would say, but I understand your interest.

For the record, almost everyone I know who has stayed at the Playa Maya has reported good things about it.

How could Steve help to book another place if they are not certain where they want to stay? I'm sure if they knew where they wanted to stay then Steve would be happy to book it for them - which would be a bit convoluted since they would have to arrange payment.

It isn't like Playa Maya is an AI with a group of "sister" hotels. I am not sure how they would be able to help someone book into another hotel in town?

Woohoo !!!

For 10 years now, a reservation confirmation at Playa Maya has decorated the door of our fridge throughout the year, and we still haven't received our's for 2015, perhaps due to some uncertainty about which rooms you might be able to offer us.

You already have our dates and deposit and, of course, 301 for an 11th year would be perfectly fine with us.

However, I'll just remind you of this exchange from years gone by on this forum:

We would be more than happy to assist Playa Maya in this project with suggestions for design and amenities.

And to think, that, after all these years that roni and ryberg loved each other.

I have had reservations screwed up in several cities. The hotels always helped find alternate lodgings and provided me with transportation to the alternate hotel. I assumed if they can do that in Chicago and New York City, as a matter of customer service, it could happen around the world.

Certainly a local hotel would have better resources/connections for helping with that than a customer living thousands of miles away.

I think Playa Palms is a great suggestion. Nice location and physical plant and right on the beach.

Alternate transportation in Playa??
Here's 20 pesos, my friend.
These travelers ain't dummies. They know better than Steve where they want to stay. Better resources? How's that? Crystal ball?
Come on, Ron....you are being a tad bit extreme here.
