Introduction & Suggestions

Hola,

My family will be coming to Playa for our first ever vacation May 24-31. My wife and I are celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. Having never seen an ocean in my 45 years on this planet, I am really looking forward to checking this off my bucket list. Our daughter is 20 and our son is 17.

We are staying at The Grand Mayan (not AI) about 10 miles North of Playa and are planning several trips to town (Groceries / Shopping / Scuba / Beach / Restaurants).

My son and I will be coming into town at least 2 days for a noon scuba diving session. Any recommendations on what to do for a couple of hours prior to or after our scuba session would be greatly appreciated.

We are also planning to spend a day at the Xplor park South of Playa.

Is a taxi the best / most economical means of transportation from the resort? Is it a good idea to have the resort arrange your transportation to Playa? Please advise.

Muchos Gracias

They run a shuttle to town for 50 pesos per person….runs a every few hours. In the past they dropped off at Walmart. Taxi should run 225 pesos, I always just always asked for a taxi and they are waiting.

The ocean is gorgeous to look at there, but very rocky entrance (though I have heard reports that they started the restoration project…finally. The pools and the property itself are lovely though.

Pick up food and drinks at a grocery store in town. The food is moderate to pricey, but the alcohol is absurdly priced.

DO NOT got to the time share thing!!!!!!

Scuba

Have you picked a dive shop yet? There are several good ones, I'm sure, but I'm going with Reef Quest Divers again this year. Steve was most excellent during my first ocean dives. Really gave me some confidence and quelled my concerns.

VermiciousKnid, thanks for the information. Will the taxi accomodate 4 passengers for the $225 pesos? I have already planned NOT to do the timeshare.

Bobsmartx, we have already made arrangements with Mexico Blue Dream. Thanks for the information.

Yes. The taxi will carry a maximum of four. The price is for the taxi, not per person.
It may be tight - the taxis are small
