Club Maeva Tulum
Hi, We are going to the Club Maeva Tulum for 12 nights in July. We usually stay at the Viva Azteca in Playacar, have stayed at others there too, but wanted to try something different. Anyone been there... any tips....anything about resort would be appreciated. Thanks Rose

Viva Azteca my FAV !!!
Hiya, We love the Azteca. Do make reservations at the 'sit down' restaurants. Also, you can go to the Maya, which is like a few hotels down, book a reservation at the Mediterainian one at the Maya, you can do it at the Azteca, it is really great. Try to get a room in the buildings down near the pool. If you get bottom floor, no one bothers your stuff, and you can just walk out to the pool...beach is right near by and the fab pool bar/snack bar. It is great for kids. We love the hotel so much, we got married there 1 1/2 years ago. They really treated us special and our 12 guests. Our wedding day was unreal with what they did for us. Very resonable too. Was really beautiful. They made the whole day a party for us. The staff is great there. When we went back last Nov., 10 of this time, they remembered us and treated us great, got dirty looks from some other guests. Make sure you tip, dont have to be much, just a little gets you a lot. They have the best beach in Playacar I think, and we have stayed at several. In July we are going to stay at the Club Maeva Tulum for 13 days just to try something different. One trip from the hotel that is fun is the snorkeling trip. They pick you up by boat on the beach and take you south to some reefs. Was great !!!! Make sure you use the boogie boards at the hotel, fun with lots of waves. The head bell man, cant remember his name right now, has 'friends'. He set us up with a van for the day with a driver at the cost of $175. We had the hotel pack us box lunches, all included, to take with us and we just go. Last time did Tulum and Xel-Ha. Was great. On our time schedule. If you have any specific ????'s, just ask. Have fun...Rose

Questions about Azteca
Rose,
Thanks for the info! We were wondering about activities and stuff planned by the hotel since they say they have so much going on each day. We are an early twenties couple so weren't sure if the activities were more family/kid oriented. We want to go to XelHa and Tulum at some point. What do you think about the bus trips to there, or just go on own via taxi? I've got some conflicting info on how far of a walk it really is from Azteca to downtown PDC, what would you say? Thanks!!! Beth |

Hi Rose, i stayed at Club Maeva in January and i loved it! Food was really good lots of variety and well prepared. The seating is family style so get ready to meet people. This was actually a nice feature, i got to know a ton of people and everyone was great. The resort is tailor made for families and i thought the staff was friendly and helpful. Have a great time and let me know how it is in playa in the summer.

Azteca
Bethh,we stayed at Azteca in Jan. this year.Lovely beach & fantastic hotel employees! Downtown PDC is 20-25 minute walk, tops, from Azteca. Did it 2 times & I am 59 & smoked for 40 yrs.If you have time might sent for can-do map from Mapchick.com. Collectivo to tulum, Xel ha cheap & easy,or see if Anna from this board has any trips to Tulum & cenote while you're there. I have heard they are great! We did 1 tour from hotel to chichen itza, long day but could not pass up seeing that moving site,& climbing the pyramid. They keep saying that people will soon be stopped from doing so. It was a dream of mine come true.Buffet at hotel is good, especially bkfst. I liked the snack bar at the Viva Maya better, more variety, etc. but often we were away at lunch. Also be sure to try the cafe downtown owned by Wyndham. 5.00 extra charge but otherwise part of AI & had a great steak there.Nice little mall down the street[so.] toward the Maya, with shops[good prices] ATM machine,ice-cream store-etc. Nice after dinner walk.Shows at hotel are fine, but 20 somethings might enjoy a couple of nights in downtown Playa.
Can highly recommend Frida Bar on 5th Ave. Lots of other good reports on this forum...enjoy! Gail |
