June 9, 2014

Well, DH and I woke up at 11:55 p.m. so that we could do online checkin with The Royal.

I've heard that if the hotel is full, this online process of room selection/upgrades does not "work". We did not have this problem last year. Logged in and checked out our room, plus others and reviewed upgrade options etc.

Last night, we got the dreaded screen below after logging into the online checkin

I did check online at realresorts.com and the only rooms available right now are regular suites (non-ocean view) and the 1 bedroom suites (which we don't need/want). So the hotel appears to be much more full this June as opposed to last.

We talked about it last night and if the price was right, we would upgrade to an ocean front but will not know our options until we get there I guess. I'm still of the opinion I'd rather spend that extra money in Playa...

I tried again this morning and got the same thing. So online checkin is definitely not available. I chuckled because people on TA are constantly saying that the online checkin isn't "working". It is working as designed people. No, you are not able to checkin nor select a suite, but you are in fact making it into the system and it is displaying the desired message. You are unable to select as they do not want you to. The site isn't "broken". Prior to 12:00 a.m., I was unable to log into the system. at 12:00 a.m., I could log in, but received the online room selection was not available. Can you tell I'm a computer person? Details, Details.

Anyway, I emailed Charon and Willow and asked if they could please make sure that I have a decent room assignment (hoping for 238 again). I am hoping they will at least tell me what room I have been assigned. The suspense is killing me. I have been emailing them at LEAST once per month since we booked this trip last August. We email back and forth on holidays etc. Very nice ladies!

Oh, and we were upgraded to First Class again for the flight from Philly to Cancun. As boring as it may be for some people...this is a huge plus for us. My husband is 6' 2" and a big guy (I'm no dainty flower myself) and that extra room you get in First Class really does make that 4 hour flight much more comfortable. Ok, ok, the free drinks don't hurt

We MUST get some packing done today. We spent the weekend doing everything but packing. We got some laundry done, but that was about it. Hoping today to get it all done so we can relax tomorrow evening and get to bed early for our Wednesday departure. Hoping work cooperates this week.

On another upnote, 1 day, 20 hours until we leave for the airport!

Update: I couldn't stand the suspense any longer so I called reservations. After 4 transfers (not complaining about it), I finally got someone that could tell me that I did in fact have a preassigned room. Number 337! We were in 238 last year and I would be totally satisfied with that room, but really wanted a bigger balcony and a hammock...and I have it this year.

All my hard work is paying off. I am finally getting super excited and will bust butt to get work done so I can pack and relax...

Our friends were in Room 336 last year. Check out our 2013 trip report
for views of and from the room...

336 didn't have a hammock since it was a corner suite, however 337 does!

That's awesome news Pam! We loved being on the top floor last year, no noises when the room above you is being cleaned.

First class flights, a great room....sounds like it's all off to a great start. Just don't forget your iPad this time and you should be set!!!

I am super stoked. 238 didn't have a big balcony OR a hammock! The Royal has done me right this year and I'm very grateful

I'll try not to forget anything. I'm a packing nightmare right now. Not a stitch in the suitcase. It's been staring at me for a while now.

Looks like you're getting close to another RPDC trip! Did you get another oceanfront swim-out? Are your friends joining you again?

Hopefully you'll do a TR as well.

I'm still debating one from our vacation to Puerto Vallarta a few weeks ago...the non-RM section doesn't seem to get much traffic though.

I would still love to see one nonetheless. I know I would read it!

That sounds like me...I over plan and prepare the entire trip but then I leave packing down to the last few hours. Hopefully you at least have your clothes sorted so it's a little easier.

You are going to love Room 337. It was the first room we had back in 2008. Best view and location. We will be returning to the Royal at the end of August for our 7th visit. Already but in my room requests!!!

Have fun!!! Can not wait to read your TR

I'm sure we will love 337...of course, as soon as I knew the room number I went on the hunt for pictures and video...found a youtube video of the room...so excited.

Last pieces of the trip puzzle this morning...checked in for the flight and printed boarding passes, packed laptop cables and shoes and grabbed the spacebags for space consolidation on the way back. Also reserved our cab for the 4:20 a.m. trek to the airport. Airport is at the end of our street (very small town with a very small regional airport). Cab ride costs $6.

Wish I would have seen this earlier...I would have told you the online check in is down. I spoke to Charon last week, she told me - it's been down for a while, it's not necessarily because the hotel is full. Just not working.
