Schools? Giving the area consideration for a new beach location

I've lived in Phuket Thailand for over 15 years, and it's time to give some new locations consideration for a move in the next two years. We enjoy nice beaches, warm tropical weather, locations with a variety of food options, and a place with that has a multi racial and international feel.

Currently on our shortlist of places to check out is Tenerife, Mauritius and the Maya Riviera area.

One thing that is important is having a good international school available. Our child is currently in year 5 (fourth grade in the US) and is in a private school following the Cambridge world wide curriculum. From what I've found in looking into the PDC area is there is a limited number of choices for schools. How is Colegio Ingles these days as I haven't seen any recent threads about this school?

My kids go to Papalote and have been very happy there. Our eldest went to Colegio Ingles briefly and it did not work out for our family so we switched to Waldorf based education. There is a new International School starting in the Fall of 2015 that you may want to also consider. Here is a link to the private schools on the Riviera Maya that are best suited to accommodate foreign students.

I would strongly recommend a visit to the area to visit the schools and interview their administrators and teachers.

Thanks for the information and the link. Is the international school you are referring to the International school of Playa Del Carmen? That curriculum with the IB is what I'm looking for, but for anyone older than 4th grade it basically looks like homeschooling in a setting that is not at home, but not really a traditional school setting either. I can understand with limited space and budget, but does this type of schooling compare to actually having a teacher going over the various subject matter?

I'm not very much help here as this is going to be their 1st academic year. Jim and Alicia have worked at International Schools around the world and Alicia has been running a successful "Distance Learning" program in Playa for the last year so I imagine they know what they are getting into. It is the only school, that follows the IB curriculum you are looking for outside of Cancun. I'd recommend you talk to Jim and Alicia and see what their plans are for the upcoming year.

I'm sure they are not.

Their contact info is listed on that page I linked to above.

OK thanks.

On a side note, that social media bar on your buyplaya website slows down the page loading considerably, as well as causes the page to be reloaded from the top of the page instead of where someone was previously at after clicking on a listing ( at least in Firefox).

We are moving to PDC soon (2 months left!!) and our daughter will be attending the Montessori school in Playa del Carmen. We have visited the school and it's seems the perfect place for her. Located 10 min from center PDC.
