Culture from the north of Mexico

Mata Ortiz is a town in Chihuahua, which is known as some of the towns in the world where people live of making pottery.
¿What makes it so special?
There is no technology in their fabrication process!! they do not use wheel, molds or oven. It is the way prehispanic Indians use to do their pottery.
The model only with their hands, all the materials are 100% natural and they paint with pincels made of hair!! it has 1 inch long, so you can make one line at the time, and for cooking the pots they call it "open sky fire"
you can see in this video how this process is made.

This is the same way the pueblo tribes of New Mexico and the Hopi, Maricopa etc. of Arizona do their pottery work, main difference is, they use chewed Yucca leaves as brushes. Main commonality between everyone, is that no glazes are used and they are coiled.

Authentic Ceramic workshop!!

I took the second edition of this Ceramic workshop here in Playa and it is def worth it!! You learn how to create incredible pieces from scratch and paint like a pro. The traditional way they do in the North of Mexico.

Awesome creative things going on here in Playa. If your on vacation don't miss it!!

Check out the link and photos of my experience

Def recommendation while here in the Riviera Maya!!
