i think i've found another account, an old account, nearly forgotten, that i can use at the ATM. all the good folks here have convinced me that it's the way to go. i was just worried that the ATM fees would stack up but, in the end, it's a small amount to concern myself with.

Thank you all!
That's why I opened that Schwab account. I will only deposit enough money to use for the trip. The fact that it is free with no minimums and FREE International ATM usage was the clincher. We will be receiving our card Monday - just in time for our trip on Thursday!

Same post.
Over and over.
Does this "guy" have a business, or is it just a guy?

Like I said, he went about it in the wrong way. CiBanco provides a service for private (personal) account holders that MONEX used to provide but no longer does.

Yeah.
He should have mentioned CiBanco and not "a guy"
And he's in charge of promotion?

We use Intercam and their bank, InterBanco for those services here. I have seen an Intercam office in Playa, I think on 10th. Transferred money down (via their US bank, Mellon Bank of NY) to buy our car. Since it was via their US account, it was a domestic wire transfer and much less expensive than an international wire transfer

He is Mexican, this is Mexico and things are done differently. Yes, I would think that the Promotion's Director would have a clue about how to do things.
Like, if it were me, I would have a huge banner on the new Home Depot announcing a TENTATIVE opening date. Get people excited about the opening. It's Mexico and hardly anyone announces their business' opening in advance. Just the way it is here I guess. Maybe that way, you hardly notice when they go out of business (and I am not referring to Home Depot).
