average taxi cost from cancun airport to playa del carmen

Hi

Last year when I came to playa I was charged 70$ to go from cancun to playa, and 90$ to go from the airport to the riu palace peninsula in cancun.

What really is the price to go to play from the cancun airport and what's the best company to use?

I'm about to use USA transfers for the second time. They'll be providing round trip fare to playa from cancun for just over $100USD. YMMV

Also, the Playa.info transfer comes well recommended:

Good luck!

I don't think there is an official price. It is based on availability, time of day, how busy they are and how much you look like you would pay. It does seem to be on average cheaper FROM Playa to CUN. Expect anywhere from 500-900 pesos. If you have several people a transfer service is better.

I believe from the official airport taxis, it IS fixed--and it's ridiculous, about 95 usd last I checked. Regular taxis are not permitted to pick up passengers at the airport, just the airport taxis.

From Playa to the airport, the rate is supposed to be fixed, currently at around 488 or 500 pesos (I can't remember), but I'd be surprised if you found one for less than around 550 or 600 these days.

right, as most things go in Mexico, price is, almost, always negotiable. just be sure to do the negotiating before getting in the cab.

we've been looking at the cheapest, most convenient way to get to Playa from Cancun. Since there are three of us, even the ADO bus is close enough in price that we're opting for a private transfer. only $20-30USD more for a private van with no additional stops along the way and no cab from the ADO station in Playa to the hotel.

Airport cabs are federally licensed and always cost more at any Mexican airport and are not negotiable as the union man has waited his turn and will get full fare from someone else . In some cities you can walk off the airport grounds and save a lot of money by catching a city cab . This is not possible at Cun . This would explain differing rates from and returning to any Mexican airport .

In some cities we have taken the shortest possible federal cab ride to a place that we could get a city cab to save some pesos but this also is not particularly easy near CUN . It's also a hassle but I am frugal at best and a cheapass at least .

right. that seems to be about the going rate. $60-65USD one way. remember to tip the driver though, especially, if he carries your bags and provides good conversation or imparts useful knowledge regarding your stay.
