Remember Calle Corazon? Really cool fact

Do you remember Calle Corazon, the small street off 5th that was a small shopping street? It had a little place in the heart of a lot of tourist. It has recently been under development and most of an entire block has been dug up and under construction. This meant that the nice trees that were there were taken out. BUT....the story does not end there. The trees were actually saved and have been replanted on 16th St next to Quinta Alegria shopping plaza. The trees are blooming again and survived the transplant. The awkward looking trees in the sidewalk were saved and put there and now don't feel out of place (we welcome them back). I came across this little fact while writing a piece about Playa getting a little greener. There are some photos of the tree there in case you are not in town. I loved that little area. Haven't been to Playa for a few years. What happened to the cool benches they had? It was so relaxing back there.

What are the future plans for this special spot?

Do we remember Calle Corazon? Of course.

Do we remember what that spot looked like before Calle Corazon?
Yes. Change is the only constant, at least it seems to be here in Playa.

I don't know about the benches but the area is going to be a shopping mall all the way from 12th to 14th. It may sound big and horrible but we shall see. Quinta Alegria used to be a big empty lot and now is a three story plaza. A lot of people like the way it fits in and is not overwhelming. Some feel it is too big and out of place.

Playa is changing and there was another post on here with a gallery of construction. If so many tourist would stop coming here then things would stay the same, but.... Playa moves on and some changes like going a little bit greener are a good thing and other things might not be so easy to digest.

Playa continues to generate jobs and it is a magnet from other parts of Mexico for those seeking a new life and opportunities. People come especially from Veracruz and Chiapas. The international crowd is coming as well, to live, and work as long as they can navigate immigration.

The "new" Calle Corazon will consist of the Thompson Playa Hotel, restaurants, condos AND a shopping mall.
More high end stores continue to open in Playa. Last night I noticed that MC2 Saint Barth is about to open a store on AV. 5. That, along with Vilebrequin (Paseo del Carmen) are among the highest priced (men's) casual clothing/swimwear lines in the world.

Go for the Vilebrequin men's bathing suit - usually $200 USD and up. Probably look better than that old Speedo

I did a walkthrough of Quinta Alegria yesterday and was surprised at actually how many clothing stores there are especially higher end women's clothes stores. It actually brings a lot of new stuff to Playa and a place to get clothes, something that many people lament not having in Playa. I will be putting up a list soon of what is there.

wow. i can't imagine anything looking more out of place. i don't live in Playa and won't have to see it until the next time we visit but...

it makes me happy when communities step back, take stock of what they have to offer then decide if a new project is a good fit.

that monstrosity will never be even a small part of why i visit PDC. Au Contraire.
