Ooo, ooo, I got one!! Sonny Landreth plays guitar for John Hiatt and he has the perfect song....The Tiki Bar is Open from the album of the same name. I know, it's more a south seas thing, but many of the bars in Playa remind me of Tiki Bars.

Y'all have a GREAT time in Dallas!

Ode to El Pirate

FOO FOO: Carlos Santana (Shaman, 2002)

Peeps... we need to get this CD on the road!

Here are a few of my suggestions for the CD. And rest assured, they DO indeed strike a Playa Chord!

"The Stumble" A Hard Road, 1967 John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers
(I wonder if I need to explain?)

This one is dedicated to late night Poi performances at El Pirate. Now why do you suppose they wouldn't light mine?

"Migra" Supernatural, 1999 Carlos Santana

My dedication to two charitable organizations benefiting from Crossroads Guitar Festival:

"The Calling" Supernatural, 1999 Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton

Milagro Foundation was established by Carlos Santana and his wife, to provide needed services to children and youth in need.

http://www.milagrofoundation.org/

Crossroads Centre was founded by Eric Clapton to provide treatment services for addictions disorders.

http://crossroadsantigua.org/website/index.html

** Denise... sure would be fun to have the lil beer drinkin' diddy on the CD - but the only Playa/Dallas connection would be BEER! Does that count?

"Coatimundi" by Bo Diddley from A Man Amongst Men, 1996. A reggae tune which incidentally also features Jimmie Vaughan as the guest guitarist.
Here's the connection to Playa:

The coatimundi or coatí is a large dark or reddish brown raccoon-like mammal with a long white snout and a very long, faintly-ringed tail that is found on the ground and in trees thoroughout the Mayan world. The coatí is also found on Mayan hieroglyphs and is believed to signify the Mayan diety Zaqui-Nimá-Tziís, the great white coatimundi gray with age, mother of god from the Mayan creation story, the Popul Vuh. The Mayan word for coatí is chi’ik which also means clown because of it’s playfulness. Hence in Mayan folklore, the coatí is known as the clown or jester.

Now if we could only locate a coatí wearing a jester's cap for the Bumper...that would be a very cool avatar.

Wow what a lineup!!!
Unlike anything I've ever seen in my short(key word short) lifetime.
There will be no more cottonbowl after that event.
The new stadium is in the works.
Future home of the DALLAS COWBOYS

To bad Don Henley couldn't make it.

Now you're talkin about my old avatar!! I kinda' like that Manitoba bison, and I was sorry to see it go, but felt the "fool" was more representative. Maybe I can get me a coati hat to wear, like Davey Crockett and his coon skin. Just fun fur, of course, not a real genuine empty coati. (Whew!! Almost got the World Wildlife Fund folks after me with that one!)

You guys are killing me with all the talk about the concert of the century that I won't be able to enjoy with you. The quality of the talent they've been able to attract, in conjunction with your great company, is pretty much guaranteed to make this the event of a lifetime. Wonder if anyone has spoken to PBS about putting this gem in the can to run during Pledge Weeks?

"Cheap Sunglasses" by ZZ Top from Degüello, 1979. A classic tune with a great guitar solo by Billy Gibbons that always reminds me of Playa.
