Treasure Island, Florida

Spent 5 days there here in August for a little anniversary trip. It wasn't our beloved Playa, thats for sure, but we had a good time. Good food, drinks, and the beach was alright, but its not the beautiful blue/green waters of Playa. Getting used to walking from the condo 100-200 yards to the water was strange to say the least. Lots of sand, lol.

Treasure Island is full of retired folks, families on vacation from around the world, and lots of locals too. We felt like it was stepping back in time as the biggest resort called the Bilmar was multi colored and looked right out of the 60's. In fact, many of the buildings were a pink color, or yellow, etc....Most places looked dated. Not that there were not expensive homes and condos around, and boats and sail boats that were mighty impressive.
Best bar to hang out at is Ricky T's. Our best meals were at Middle Grounds (great steak and fish) and Gigi's...superb italian with fresh shrimp, and excellent thin style pizza. VIP's had very good mexican food, and we enjoyed a few breakfast places. They are all in a 2-3 block span.

You can drive the gulf road from St. Pete to Clearwater.....beaches were better in our minds up by Clearwater. Normal water sports action. Seafood was fresh, and prices were very friendly for the most part at the restaurants.

The drive from Tampa airport over all the bay areas is beautiful as you are driving over water all the time. We didn't have time to really do much exploring, but you can imagine there is plenty going on within the Tampa-St. Pete metro including so many beach communities. I hear some of the places on the beach go for $60 per night or so. Nothing fancy thats for sure, but family friendly prices.

We just got back from 5 days in Indian Shores (up the coast from Treasure Island) last Saturday. It was a 60th b'day celebration (mine). Loved the area!

My husband and I lived in between Indian Rocks and Treasure Island for 8 or 9 years in Redington Shores. We were in a 5th floor condo on the gulf front. We had the best sunsets and could then look out the front to see the sun rise. I do miss the beach there!!

It would be a wonderful place to retire to. Really liked the area. Wish we had had more time to go up and down the coast a bit more.
