Ditto to what Jesus outlined.
While there are points in the thread that are worth thinking about- not only for the people in the US but in all well off countires- such as the fact that we are sitting in one of the "fatty eyes" of the soup that is the world and still moan and groan, while there are millions fighting for their lives each day....there are other parts of it that made me stumble over my own feet mentally when reading it.
Just as Jesus pointed out- it is NOT the citizens of the US that are viewed askew by many in the world these days.....it's the politics. Just the opposite of what the writer points out.
Then he points out that everyone in the world envies the complete political, social and religious freedom in the US.......well, there ARE in fact a number of other countries who have those things as well and have no need for envy.
And- along with what Jesus pointed out- for sure one should not get too stuck up in sticking to negative sources of info.....but then one also has to take those in account to have the full picture, no? Or as full of a picture as one can get if not being directly where something is happening. Only reading the positive will lead to an unbalanced view- not reading or watching at all will lead to living in ones own little bubble.
So while I do see quite a number of valid points in the text it is the stance of "they all envy and hate us" along with the "just ignore all the negative stuff" that sort of ruins it for me.
Like some here mentioned in other threads- critizism doesn't neccesary mean to just complain, it can also be a form of think things through, re-evalutating them and then to go for a change. Critizism can be very fruitful.
