Later that night was pretty chill, we just caught some music at Fah, drinks at Beer Bucket, some dinner at Barbacoa de Tulum, and a few drinks at Umma Gumma.

Thank you. It is a lot of work, but its also a lot of fun going back through the pictures and revisiting the trip in my mind.

Hmmmmm, good question. They are on the corner of 10 Ave and Calle 10, but I have no idea what was on the torta, maybe arrachera? My quesadilla was cochinita and cheese. I must disclose that the food here is nothing amazing(nothing horrible either, but you won't be talking about it for days or anything), but its dirt cheap (i wanna say my quesadilla was 22 pesos) and honestly the real draw for us is the 50 pesos litre mixed drinks. I don't think we've ever ordered anything besides the torta and quesadilla though. They had another small location down on 1st (near the clubs) that we frequented last trip because we enjoyed talking with the manager, but it is closed now.

I cannot thank you enough, seriously!!! I am contently depressed over not being there this week. I know I've whined, a lot, but nothing could make me leave my ill cat, not even PDC. So I'm content...but really depressed. Your pictures have filled part of a void!!

I love you

Aw wow, thats awesome! I don't claim to be an expert on anything, but I just love food. I really just look for quality ingredients and people who know how to cook them to their advantage (nailing cooking techniques and seasoning goes a long way for me).

Hope we run into each other! I'm excited to actually be in town during a time when there are lots of board folks around.

You have made my day. Its so nice to know that there is someone reading this and that it can add a little something special to your day.

I'm currently engrossed in a The Killing marathon, but lots more to come tomorrow...9 more days in fact.

Reading a review on Trip adviser @ Playa Maya, and I'm thinking "I know that guy!" great review.

Well, we ended up having dinner at La Fragata tonight....and we thought it was pretty tasty! I have the Dijon chicken and Don had the filet mignon, smaller portions but lots enough food, and we thought both were yummy. And we felt the prices were very good too (but food and booze is $$ in Canada). With one drink each, bill was only about 420 pesos. The server, however, was friendly and attentive enough, but a bit lackadaisical ...forgot to bring cutlery, I ordered a Chardonnay and he brought me house red, lol.

Wednesday

Hmm, what did we do today? No idea. This is the only photographic evidence before the sun set. Skydivers often landed right there on the beach. You would just suddenly look up and they would be above you.

We went to see Mike and Victor place at Fah that night.

Afterwards we hopped over to Don Sirloin. We nicknamed the guy working the spit “The meat ninja”, cause he was awesome. He let the meat cook until perfectly charred and then would cut it so fast that you could barely see it. I hate when the meat had no char.

Sirloin…OMG, the best ever.

Dave also got a sirloin torta. He ate half and was planning to take the other half home for breakfast, but I may or may not have asked for a bite and then ate the rest. I admit nothing!

Umma Gumma…cause that how we end most nights.

Thursday

We discovered today that we prefer sitting on the Xaman ha deck rather than on the beach. Not quite as much blowing sand to get into the cooler and drinks, but same great view and quick access to the ocean and the pool. I am currently on my 2nd book of the vacation. Dave is listening to the same book on audio, so we spent most of the day drinking and talking about the book. I read faster than he can listen to the audiobook. The book was Ready Player One and it was excellent…I highly recommend if you are a geeky fan of the 80’s.

This was also the first day were really enjoyed the pool and the pool bar. We totally enjoyed chatting with the surly bartender who clearly hated most of his customers and his job, but seemed to like us for some reason.

Dinner tonight was at Caguameria de Esquina, which may be my favorite restaurant in Playa (always subject to change). We had been here before and I was dying to taste their tempura pork belly again.

I also think its one of the prettiest restaurants in town, but I guess I neglected to take much in the way of pictures. Lots in my last trip report.

Pork belly was just as delicious as I remember.

I also had a craving for onion rings, and they may have been the best of my life.

I had seen picture of an octopus dish on their Facebook page, but couldn’t find it on the menu, so we asked and they said they had it. I don’t know if it was a special or if the menus are just not up to date, but they often picture things on their Facebook that I couldn't find on the menu.

But the octopus was amazing. I believe it was cooked in the woodfired oven or grilled based on the texture, with a chile lime rub. It was served with beet “fries”. I love beets…I was in heaven.

Since it was Thursday night, we stopped by Luna Blue, but there was no music and only one other person there. We chatted with Jorge for a bit and the woman at the bar, but moved on after one drink.

We headed down to Wah Wah next. This is when I almost died. I tend to be accident prone, nothing big, but I’m forever tripping up a flight up steps or falling off a curb. In fact, as I was walking down 5th I commented that I hadn’t managed to injure myself yet this trip. I should have kept my mouth shut. As we were walking in the back alley towards the back entrance to Wah Wah, I carefully stepped over the big concrete slab that sticks up, only to take 2 more steps and miss a small chunk of rock sticking up out of the dirt…and I tripped…face first towards the ground. I got my hands up just in time to save my face, but I also landed ON MY STOMACH…ON TOP OF MY CAMERA (which had no lens cap) and knocked the wind out of myself. I’ve never had the wind knocked out of me before and I spent about 5 minutes on the ground gasping for air. My husband was trying to give me his hand to help me up, but the earth was spinning (I WASN”T DRUNK) and I grabbed towards a wooden railing, which promptly collapsed taking me face first into the wall. Go me! I tried to gather my dignity as I got to my feet and took myself to the bathroom to assess the damage. I was covered in dirt and both knees were scabbed up, but my camera was functional, thankfully! I was left with an awful black bruise about 5inches diameter below my left knee and sore ribs for a few days, but no real harm done, except to my ego. I think it beats my previous favorite injury story, which involved a swan dive onto my bedroom floor, landing right on my face. But I can’t tell that story, because I actually was drunk and have no recollection of the event.

But by the end of the evening, the drinks were flowing, the Nasty Bastards were rocking, and my camera was still working!

Friday

Back on the beach today. Someone stole our usual deck spot and then dropped off their towels and left the seats empty all day. Grrr.

This picture was actually taken from inside our room. We just looked up and there was this huge boat, close to shore, taking up the entire frame of the balcony sliding glass doors.
