Porto Real
I am looking at going there as well but still trying to find some solid information on the resort. We are looking to go mid Aug. From what I have found it is right up there with best of what Playa has to offer now with maybe the exception of The Royal Hide Away. I have seen two different grand opening dates....May and July so I'm not sure when it official opened/opens. New resorts some times have some kinks to work out which makes me nervous but the price is certainly right. Let me know if you find any good information.

The Royal Porto Real is supposed to open this month...we'll see.
It is a beautifully looking property but they will have to convince me that they have the whole overbooking situation that the Gran Porto Real suffers from ubder control before I'd want to book anyone there. Guess we all have to wait for the first reviews! |

Royal Porto Real
I made some calls and the Grand Opening date is July 1st. I was told they would be done with all construction and we should not worry about having loud construction noise or obstructed views by cranes and such. I'm with you Momc, I can't really afford the RH and this place sounds ok.....I am suffering from research overload and just need to pull the trigger on a hotel so I can relax. For all the PDC veterans, I got a quote of $2250 for 7 nights at RPR....is there any place with smilar rates that you would recommend over RPR? Good luck Momc!

No way is this place complete
We just returned from Playa and the Porto Royal is far from complete. Don't count on it in September. They have a LONG way to go. I heard that they ran into financial troubles which put them behind.
Hard to believe they have financial troubles when all they do is overbook the Gran Porto Real.... |

Well, iam not sure what to believe. My travel agent said it was open and she is going there in 3 weeks with her family. She said the beach isn't finished. She told me that if the resort isn't complete or she has a bad stay i can change to Gran Porto or even a different resort. From what i have read here about Gran Porto i would probably change resorts. Iam not letting this stress me out because i know where ever we end up staying we will have a wonderful time.

Not quite done...
I stayed at the GPR last week and the RPR and not close to being done..
when it is complete it will be very nice and be on a great beach.... i'd say it needs another 5 - 6 months for completion... They might complete the lobby and some rooms and open you never know.... i think people staying at the rpt will have access to the gpr facilities and visa versa.... Remember if you chose to stay at the GPR make sure and book though a company like MLT.. i did and when the pull my reservation at the dest it had MLT in big letters written on the top... I did get my room ... |

What is MLT? I was thinking it would be no problem to book my trip (my first time in Playa del Carmen) on my own. Is this a bad idea? Should I book through an agent instead? Any recommendations? |
