NOTICE TO ALL!!

The PlayaInfo Olympics are not a dead issue. A feasibility study continues into the possibility of conducting these games. Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee, has been contacted about having them officially sanctioned, but he has not yet responded. (Something about an upcoming event in Athens...go figure!) The organizing committee (so far, that's Mrs. B and I, so the meetings are small, and the lines of communication are real short!) feels Denisea's idea of a scavenger hunt is a terrific notion, and the PlayaInfo Trivia Test has great potential (Good 'un, Donna). We're currently looking into potential venues. (A beach front hotel maybe??? Any particular spot come to our collective mind??? Perhaps with a sympathetic and receptive innkeeper???) In combination with the "athletics", we see this as a two-day event. Scavenger hunt on day 1, and the athletics & trivia on day 2, with the medal presentation ceremonies at the end of each day. Potential dates - March 5 and 6 (Saturday & Sunday), 2005. Anyone see any potential problems with these preliminary suggestions? The committee is still seeking ideas for events that could form part of the games. Preferably, nothing too strenuous, requiring any athletic prowess, physical conditioning, or excessive amounts of equipment, please. Any other ideas or suggestions to make these games fun are welcome. Remember, we have no budget, though we'll be looking for some sponsorships, so fiscal restraint is always a good idea. Feel free to PM me, if you would rather not put forth your ideas on the forum. Input, please.

Potential problems??? POTENTIAL???

Bumper, my mother tries to convince me daily that the world does not revolve around ME; however, I remain oblivious! Team Tex/Can will only be on-site as of March 12th. Naturally you will not be able to get us ALL in... but IT'S TEAM Tex/Can for heavens sake!!

Oh, and if I were to apply for a comittee position would there be free travel perks and upgrades? When am I flown to my first meeting?

Lemme' see now...while we haven't been able to book our kite yet, The Bumpers figure on being in PDC until March 19, and we're notoriously flexible. If we run the games on the 13th and 14th (giving Team Tex/Can a day to get over your jet lag) that gives us 5 days to dry out..h-m-m-m...should be about right. Who do you anticipate is going to be on the joint team you seem to be putting together? I trust you're planning on conducting local, regional, and provincial/state qualifying competitions to determine the make up of the team. Gotta' keep your riff and your raff out y'know. After all, we must maintain our incredibly high standards. As for joining the organizing committee, and the attendant perks, we'll get back to you as to availability of consideration. "Bribe" is such an ugly word, as those folks in Salt Lake can attest. We've made it abundantly clear that while we're not cheap, we can be had. By the way, we would appreciate hearing something about "Bucky Ball". The pic looked intriguing, (anything involving coconuts is generally of interest) but an indication of the rules and game play would be helpful in determining its suitability as a PlayaInfo Olympic event.

Bucky (Bocce) Ball would be perfect. I think standard bocce scoring will work. A game can consist of of 2 or 4 players per team. I can email you the Bocce rules we have come up with for our Southern California Special Olypmics district. You will have to make a few changes to ball dimensions, court dimenisions and surface. May want to cut down our rules from 8 pages to 1 page. Add a rule that a drink must be held by the player delivering the ball at all times, if the player only has one hand then they will have to toss the drink instead of the ball (not sure I like that).

Well, Bumper...

Have you EVER seen me in the company of 'Riff Raff'? Hmmmmmmm????

Naturally Team Tex/Can is an allied front - the Can part of it sometimes needs help re-locating Playa del Carmen: hense the Tex cohort (aka 'buddy system').

My 'kite' is yet to be booked... still looking at arrangments for the 'official' Buckyball championship... much before March 2005! Speaking of which... RULES???? Someone said the 'R' word - how rude

Bump... you are going to LOVE Buckyball: involves alcohol (can be Don Julio Reposado), minimal instruction (Or skill for that matter) and no huffing and puffing! Michael was right about the Bocce reference. However, rules are minimal. Find a coconut. Find a smaller one. Pitch the smaller one down the beach... then everyone try to pitch a coconut closest to it. Pretty fricken simple... although we could take it 'cross country' to add some variety!

Now I do hope that helps clarify this new sport. I could easily post a picture, however I have been prohibited from doing so due to 'fat factor'. :p

Bucky ball should be the "athletic" event. The beauty of it is the drink in hand. Squish is absolutely correct in that minimal instruction and everyone will know how and be able to play, she's leaving out experience. Experienced Bucky (bocce) ball players know the "rules" inside and out and are able to thoroughly mess up the opposing team and "referee (drink in hand)" by reciting variations of these "rules", so they work to their team's advantage.

I have entered one official Bocce ball tournament. The Italians in the tournament did not like my family, because 1 - we aren't Italian, 2 - there were females on our team, 3 - We had one truly handicapped player on our team (my son) who was playing very well, and 4 - we were kicking there combined "arsses". Knowing the rules is very important, they started making up rules, which is one of the art's of a true bocce player, and me knowing the rules as well, was able to argue and not allow them to out argue me (or something like that). Since it was morning and cold, they asked me and my wife if we would like some coffee. "Sure" we answered. Not knowing it was spiked, we quickly consumed it, and started losing. Like I said, drink in hand is very important to winning (or losing).

Hmmm. Variations of the game. How about Bucky ball rounds? In order to advance to the second round, it doesn't matter how many games you win, but much alcohol you have consumed to advance to the next round (winning games has to still be part of the advancment, because it shows you understand the art of taking advantage of others more enibriated than you).

Cross Country - I've played that game. Loads of fun. Remember where I said you may have to change the rules about court dimensions and court surface, yup this is it, very important with Cross Country Bucky Ball. It's very important to finish, where you can crash.

Crap, It's May 5, gotta go !!!!

All I know is...

I'm calling in all markers to be the Official Chaperone of the Argentinian Olympic Bikini Team...

You can find us training daily at the North End of El Tukan/Mamita's Beach nearest the beach bar where the music is better heard....

What a generous, selfless, altruistic offer, Cuff, my friend. You are indeed a true humanitarian and an inspiration to us all. Brings a tear to the ol' Bumps eye. I'm so impressed that you would volunteer, especially as I'm sure you're aware all officially sanctioned chaperones are required to be eunuched before assuming their duties. As I indicated, Cuff, I'm genuinely moved by your noble overture. Take one for the team, pal.

Just a short "thumbnail" of some of the competitions that are under active consideration for inclusion in the inaugual edition of the PlayInfo Beach Olympics:

Pool Noodle Javelin
Tortilla Discus
25 Yard Dash (In Swim Fins)
Water Balloon Shot Put (Throwing & Catching)
Sand Castle Building
Boogie Board Chariot Races
Pea Shooting For Distance (With snorkels)
Chug-A-Lug (Relay & Individual Events)
Tequila Relay (Short sprint. Take a shot. Bend over and rest forehead on baseball bat. Three quick rotations. Sprint back. Pass baton.)

Any other suggestions?

Perhaps, on reflection, I should re-think my position as to assuming chaperone's status and all the inherent duties and obligations. I'm humbled that my friends from Argentina would consider me worthy of this position. I was told I was their first choice - but methinks that may have been somewhat of a prevarication on their part...I think others may have been approached first, but declined, regrettably....

There is a particular person that I think would be perfect for this position...He's from Ethiopia, which as we all know is the "Mecca", so to speak, for people who possess the skills needed for this post - or should I say, rather, has attained the necessary lack thereof...biblically and historically speaking...

I have been reminded that I have certain familial obligations that must take precedence, thereby precluding my "wingman" status...

Here are a few more events for the Olympic Committee to consider:
Fishing Boat Hurtle: Teams must run the stretch of beach where all the fishing boats are tied up without tripping over any boat ropes. If a team member trips over a boat rope, they must go back and start over again from the beginning. First team member to cross finish line without tripping over any boat ropes wins.

Bucky Head Roll: Teams must "nudge" coconuts down the beach using only their heads to the finish line.

Butt Bucket Race: Teams have ten minutes to scavenger cigarette butts on the beach. The team with the most butts in their bucket wins.

Cerveza Bottle Relay: Teams must race from the beach to the water, fill a cerveza bottle with water, race to a bucket on the beach and deposit the water. The team that fills the bucket first wins.

Sand Crab Crawl: Two team members get on the ground, side by side and their inner arms and legs are tied together. The first crab team to go around a designated point and back wins.

Beach Towel Tug of War: Traditional tug of war only using a beach towel in place of a rope.

Beach Obstacle Course: Each team runs against each other through a course of inflated tubes, palapas, beach chairs, coolers, and other beach related obstacles with a sprint to the finish.

Buried Alive: Teams have ten minutes to bury as many team members as possible up to their necks in sand.

Sand Bucket Relay: Teams have to transfer sand from one bucket to another using only their hands.

Musical Beach Chairs: Team members must race to the other side of the beach to get a beach chair. The person with out a beach chair is out. This continues until only one person remains.

How 'bout replacing the baton with a sombrero?
Put on Sombrero. Short Sprint. Take a shot. Bend over and rest forhead on baseball bat. Three quick rotations. Sprint back. Pass Sombrero. (If sombrero falls off at any time, player must start over!)
