Sounds like a great idea. Especially the "no athletic prowess" part. Where do we sign up?

I understand your reluctance, Cuff. I unconsciously crossed my legs when I was told of the IOC's requirement as well. While our commitment to the cause may be unequivocal, some sacrifices are just too significant and unnessarily permanent.

The committee is thoroughly impressed with your concepts, Denise.

Once again, the deity of all things known and unknown, the mistress of the seen and unseen (obscene?), that clarifier of conundrums, and interpreter of all mysteries has demonstrated her aptitude and creativity.

Not only are these suggestions innovative and ingenious, but they advance the very real possibility for humbling and humiliating the competition's participants. Denise, viciousness becomes you.

Thank you for your welcome and inventive thoughts. We are not worthy

The "Sign Up" step in the process is some way down the road, as the decision has not yet been made as to the final list of events, the venue for the games themselves, the dates for the competitions, and numerous other issues. Please continue to watch this thread, and all will be revealed, in the fullness of time. In the interim, we're sure you will want to begin your stringent program of training, in preparation for these contests.

I was describing the PDC Beach Olympics to my David tonight over burgers and beers at our local pub. He raised an eyebrow at first until I brought up the Noodle Toss and the water balloon toss and the bocce coconuts and the deal where you run down the beach and try not to trip over the fishing boat lines.... whatever that's called.
I told him that the events all take place with drink in hand (or very close by), so it was AOK....

I certainly HOPE this is serious. I got the guy all psyched up!!! And heck... I've begun some serious training........

Kinz, Karen et al;

I'm wounded that you would think me anything but the soul of sincerity in this PlayInfo Beach Olympics undertaking. While I freely admit that there are a myriad of details to be worked out, and this enterprise must be considered somewhat "half-baked" at this point, the oven is still on, and the organizing committee (Still just the two of us) is forging ahead with efforts to bring this venture to fruition. We are in the process of enlisting the assistance of other individuals who have indicated some interest in the project and hope to have more forum folk on side shortly. The Olympics Games aren't just drawn up on the back of an envelope, y'know! If any of you are planning far enough ahead to know that you will be in PDC during the period we are considering, and would like to take on a portion of the operation, feel free to let us know, either on the board, or by PM, and we will be pleased to include you in the process.

Serious training?? What the heck is that? A perpetual pre-playa hangover? Guess I'm noodle/coconut hunting tomorrow.

Bumper... here's an idea...

How about the Gringo/Gringa hairstyling competition? Complete with nasty plastic beads... anything goes. Could be judged by..hmmmm... hmmmm... EL PIRATE Bar staff???? Judging could be based on:

a) scalp exposure
b) number of beads aboard
c) itchyness factor
d) evening wear-a-bility

(remember... this is a BRAINSTORMING exercise!)

Excellent work, my friends, just outstanding! I did grow a bit concerned after reading the word "run" an unacceptable number of times in Denise's event descriptions. I propose that the word "run" be changed to "walk briskly" or perhaps "stride purposefully". Come on, this group of knuckleheads (myself included!), running....be honest people, we're talking the need for an ambulance, with full crash cart, at the ready.

I'd like to submit an event or two for consideration by the PDCBO committee....

Flip Flop Badminton - A somewhat downsized version of the standard game of badminton, using a flip flop to swat a lime wedge over a chaise lounge chair. Single and doubles events.

Bar Swing Gymnastics - Grace, strength and originality are key to this event. Of course, you have to really stick the dismount to impress the Swedish judge.

Sand Bucket Relay (tweeking Denise's event idea just a bit): Rather than teams transfering sand from one bucket to another using their hands, I propose that the athletes transport the sand from the water to the bucket in their swim suit. (Due to the potential for nudity, this event would have an R rating.)

That's it for now. The PDCBO rocks!

- Tyra

Tyra & Squish;

You're delightful people, and I cherish you both...however...your concepts are perverted, twisted, unnatural, morally bankrupt, deviant, abnormal, corrupt, and unhealthy. In short, I love 'em!! C'mon guys...the ladies are out-depraving us. Haven't any of you got any fun ideas that don't have a requirement for batteries or booze? I'm disappointed in the lot of you.

Out-depraving us?

THAT's the reason I've been online trying to find tickets to this venue for DAYS!!
Apparently though the PDC Olympics hasn't been posted on any ticket sites yet...

To heck with Athens...for now...

Cuff, if there's any chance you'll be in town when this event is under way, you best be plannin' on participatin', not spectatin'!! You're right on the mark about "exposure" though (Media exposure, that is, not the kind Tyra alluded to). Until we finalize the world-wide broadcast agreements, we likely won't get much in the way of coverage. Right now it's narrowed down to a bidding war between Turner Broadcasting and NBC. The most recent offer was 14 pesos. We're holding out for the cover of TV Guide.

Yeah, what was I ever thinking??? Perhaps we should change the term to "stagger" since that's something we can all do without too much stress on our ol' bodies, unless of course we lose our balance.... but that never happens now does it?

I love 'em! However, since the Squish would have an unfair advantage on the Bar Swing Gymnastics Event, I suggest we hold this event somewhere other than El Pirata.

Another event for consideration by the committee....
Henna Tattoo Sheet Transfer: The olympian who transfers the darkest and most visible Henna Tattoo to a white sheet wins. To be held at the Playa Maya and judged by Ryberg, of course.
