Playa del Carmen Beach Olympics

Okay, okay, okay...so the Bumpers might be considered to be just the teeniest tinyest little bit compulsive, but we like to plan things a l-o-o-ong way in advance. To that end, we've started to get our ducks in a row for our next anticipated trip to Mexico. We've already made arrangements for the first 5 days on Isla Mujeres for Feb 19 - 23, 2005 and are looking at various other options for an additional 3 - 4 weeks in Playa. Think we're being premature? NOT!! Several of the places we were looking at are booked out already, but we're sure we're going to be able to get a bed somewhere. Anyway, we figure on being in PDC from approx Feb 24 until about mid March some time. Anybody else thinking that far ahead yet?

I'll tell you why I ask. I was posting on another thread, with a somewhat sports-related theme, when it occurred to me that we might look at putting together some sort of Playa Beach Olympics. I'm not talking real athletics here, but fun type events all us non-macho, out-of-shape, never-were-in-shape, over-the-hill, couch potato types can participate in. You know, tag-team pretzel crunching, Flip-Flop throwing, full contact beach volleyball, taco tossing, individual and relay team chugalug, water noodle javelin throwing, one-handed bikini string tying, or anything with an alcohol component. Perhaps we might prevail on some local hotelier or other member of the hospitality industry to provide us with a chunk of beach to employ for part of a day. Should be good for bar business. Mrs. Bumper and I would be willing to help with a lot of the pre-work and organizing, though I suspect we would all want to keep this as casual, relaxed, non-competitive, and unstructured as possible, in keeping with Playa's culture. Hopefully, we can avoid the necessity for mandatory drug and alcohol testing. (As former Olympian and Canadian national embarrassment Ben Johnson said, "Stereos? I don know nuttin bout no stereos!?!?) Thoughts? Ideas for events? Feedback? Snores and indifference? We're out of town for the next few days, but drop us a note and give us the benefit of your fertile imaginations. There's obviously no rush. Just based on the demographics of this forum, I imagine "Team Texas" figures on walking off with all the medals, but maybe we can come up with some sort of doping scandal or something and have them all disqualified.

Moved this from Video Teaser

Beach Olymipics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This dont look like a sport for me. Did not see one of those guys with a beer in there hand. If the sport dont involve drinking just keep me on the bench next to the cooler full of beer. Bumper would this qualify me for the beach Olyimpics? Like drinking a open cooler of beer in the hot PDC sun before the ice melts. Incressed degree of dificulty a beer in each hand with a bag of beer nuts. Sign me up coach im ready to play. Its not how you win or lose its how you pass out after the game.

Event #1 - Plant beach chairs by Ferry dock, drink beer and count number of Ferrys leaving for Cozumel.

Event #2 - erect a vollyball net on beach, plant beach chairs by net, drink beer, see if anyone starts playing vollyball.

A scavenger hunt would be fun and a real challenge in Playa. For example, we already know that the simple task of buying a lime is not always as simple as going to Chedraui. Set it up so that each new clue is located at a different bar/restaurant in Playa. In order to receive the next clue you need to complete some task, drink a shot, etc. Something similar to the Amazing Race or a Poker Run. Something that's fun but at the same time makes you experience new places and things.

now, i would definetly love the scavenger hunt idea ! although i must admit the olympics does hold a certain amount interest for me, watching everyone doing physical stuff would be quite amusing !maybe, we should make it a 3 day event one day the olympics ,one day a scavenger hunt, one day a playa info trivia quiz game with questions such as , how long has james been in playa? or what's lil irish girls name? who uses the most smilies in their post or who never uses them? test all aspects of the playa info group!

I really like this Idea....We would have to have at least 10 items to find that way it would rally be funny....we could get James to put up some Playa.info gear for the winners...Michael...No gps allowed.... Donna make the reservations were in...

Why not combo the two? Call it The Playa Tequila Run Olympics. At the start of the run you receive an item you need to locate and bring to a local bar/restuarant or some designated location at which time you will receive info on the next item you need to find, however, before you can continue on your way you must complete some olympic feat. Of course, we'd need to enlist someone like Video Ken to film the whole thing.

OTAY!!

Buckyball appears to fit the Playa Olympics' modus operandi:

Minimal exertion. Played on the beach. One hand consistently free for beverage leverage.

However, with DocLoch in attendance, even WITH mandatory drug and alcohol testing, we may be able to have our results 'tweaked'

Bumper: Team TexCan will be in attendance! We're wrapping our heads around an event held upon a Fat floating apparatus!

Life is too short not plan a year ahead!!?????????????????????????????????
