We got the golf cart around 2:00 and started our exploring. I had a list of things I wanted to try to do and a Pina Colada at Villa La Bella was #1 so off we went.

Villa La Bella:

“Beer so cold it’ll make your teeth hurt”:

Loved the vibe here:

The pina coladas were great:

Scenic overlook at VLB:

I had another drink but Doug had a water since he was driving and wanted to take it slow. With plenty more stops on the list we decided to get out of there and headed North towards the church and Mango Café:

Mango margarita at Mango Café? Why not?

I wasn’t hungry but I realllly wanted to try the West Indies Chicken Tacos so we shared a plate. They were probably some of my favorite tacos ever.

Since we were right across the street we decided to visit the church before we left the area:

I wanted to enjoy the ride so I put the camera up for a bit but we went through some of the neighborhoods down South and visited Punta Sur. I was getting thirsty so we decided to follow the West coast up the island to find Barlito’s or Soggy Peso. They were doing road construction on the road to those bars so we pulled into Barlito’s since that’s what we saw first.

Barlito’s is the bar/restaurant part of a marina and hotel (Marina Paraiso). We loved this place, no beach but sits on a small marina with amazing sunset views. If we come back to Isla and do non-AI I think this might be the top contender for places to stay.

My favorite margaritas out of the trip…made the right way with freshly squeezed lime juice:

Beautiful sunset:

I had read a lot about the Barlito’s cinnamon rolls and since we needed to get back to the resort for dinner at Satay I decided ordering would help get us back on time. Zero rationalization to that but it helped me feel less guilty about eating so much. It was hands down the best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had..and sadly…that says a lot.

We made it back to the resort in time for dinner at Satay. Satay was beautiful inside but the service was painfully slow. It took us 30 minutes to get drinks and another 30 to get our order taken. We were there for over 2 hours. Some food was superb but other stuff not so much which seems to be the trend at PA, at least for us.

My salmon, not great at all:

Doug’s chicken, too overcooked to eat L

Loved the décor:

Since we got a later start drinking we decided to walk around Hidalgo/downtown after dinner. There were a ton of people everywhere, drinking and celebrating the Dia De Los Muertos festivities. We were both feeling good so pardon the goofy pics:

We found a fun bar on Hidalgo called Kokonuts. The live music was good and the drink prices were even better so we grabbed a chair. We were having a great time and wanted to stay for a while so I ran back to the room to change into shorts and a shirt….then the drinks really started flowing.

I had no idea I was being photobombed lol:

I honestly have no idea what time we stumbled back to the room...but it was definitely another fantastic day on Isla!

And thanks for the compliment! Now if only I could lose the 15lbs I've gaineed since then.
GREAT trip report. We leave for Isla 3 weeks from Thursday and can't wait to try all the places you've suggested! Thanks for the fantastic pictures!

Thank you and you're welcome! I'm going to try to finish it up tonight but we had another day of exploring and trying different restaurants. Unfortunately we didn't come anywhere close to getting to them all but if we ever get there again we won't leave without breakfast at Lola Valentina's, a cinnamon roll at Barlito and chicken tacos at Mango Cafe!

Great stuff!! Your pictures are great, and I like that you and your hubby are in so many of them. I forget to include us in our photos, which years ago prompted my mom to say... "Are you SURE you went to Ireland?? Were you there??"

And btw...you're so cute. Don't take that the wrong way, either....I'm probably close to old enough to be your mother, so I'm allowed.....

I'm a bit of a picture whore while on vacation...a 5 night vacation usually produces 1500-2000 photos and I like to be in as many as possible

And thank you I'll take any compliments I can get. 20lbs and 10 years ago I used to get cat calls all of the time. I remember when my mom told me to not be annoyed by them since they will eventually stop. They've stopped

We went to Villa La Bella about 8-10 years ago, I think it had a different name & owner. Saw that sign, "Coldest beer on Isla Mujeres". Had to stop. They made some excellent drinks there that tasted like Dream Pops. Even had flip Flops stapled all over the bar. I think Kelly Raspberry, radio host, got married there too.

I love Kelly Raspberry! When we were sitting there sipping on our drinks I told my husband that if I would have known it existed we would have rented out the entire B&B for our wedding. It would have been a lot cheaper!

I agree with Debbie -- you're so pretty! Dont think I'm creepy for saying so, though.

The guy that ran it back then was super nice, he showed us the rooms and said if I could bring 5 or so couples, our room would be free for a week. Great report by the way !!

We visited Isla Mujeres on our first trip to PdC in 2006. There was still a lot of damage leftover from Hurricane Wilma and many of the properties were derelict - totally different from its present appearance.

Love the photos!

I was googling pictures of the Hurrican Wilma damage the other day...that was about a year before our very first visit to the area. I had no idea how much destruction it caused

And thanks!

LOVE the pics and the TR. Thank you for sharing! We won't have time to visit Isla this trip but I think we HAVE to make it on our next one. You've given me a lot of places to add to my must visit list! Can't wait for more.
