Whats in a vacation anyways? #2

Well I am back in playa and area for another go round the sights, smells and tastes and to travel just a little bit deeper into what the region has to offer. I had thought long and hard about coming this time because of personal issues but in the end decided to come and make the best of it.
Since last years trip I have worked on my Spanish a bit more, managed to quit smoking, but also suffered a stroke last April. All the more reason to travel while one still can.
I have tried a sample post using google+ as my photo hosting provider and it seemed to work so will start off that way. Also am starting this report while I am still here in Mexico and will try to keep it going a bit each day.

So it seemed to be a quicker trip down and apart from the long wait for the baggage to come through the airport experiences were easy.
Used Canada transfers for the run from the airport to the hotel and he had some engine trouble but got us there OK.

So off to Al Volo looking for the blue cheese rolls only to discover it has now changed and it looks like they do mostly pizza now. Luckily El Fogon at ave 30 and calle 32 is close by...

Frijoles charros con queso (the famed bean soup)

Arrecherra norteno

Choco milk.... been dreaming of choco milk all year

And of course all the fixins

Getting down to business

For a camera this time I used my galaxy 5 samsung phone. For a phone I use one of those cheapo phones you can get at the telcel stores, have the one from last year and just put some pesos on it through the year to keep it active.

After dinner settled a bit wandered over to avenida 25 and calle 30 to the gelato stand

They have different flavors, sizes

Standard type washrooms etc. nothing fancy

You know how it is when you travel and your schedule gets screwed up? Well 4 am and Wide awake looking for coffee. Had to walk over to the Pemex and get take away. Streets are just empty at that time.

Just me and my new buddy here.

But the town wakes up quickly. The first people you encounter always say hello ( buenas dias) but as the dawn progresses attitudes become more closed in.

Some morning sights.
The ice guys are moving out early

The torta stand down near DAC's. Good for a 20 peso torta as a morning meal or snack. Some people might call me cheap, but I like value and I have no kitchen so every meal is bought out.

Chickens for sale. Not a common sight back home.

Loading the Al Pastor wheel

Loved seeing all your food photos. We are in the same neighborhood. I had no idea that El Fogon had soup! Wish I'd known as I am just getting over a terrible cold, and soup would have been SO GOOD.

Also nice to see the photos of PapaCharly's breakfasts. We have only been there for dinner (HIGHLY recommended!), but it looks like a breakfast is in order!

Enjoy your time in Playa, and thanks for sharing.

There is so many places to enjoy. That last pic was at 38th and the beach so went up to see the new Mahekal bar. Liked it better before but nothing stays the same.
