best rate is to deposit the money in canada and then withdraw from your account, it will be around .4 less than the xe website ,,im not sure you can walk into a bank with a bunch of canadian and exchange it, they usually say cambios

Thanks for the info anyway

buying money is the wrong way to go, just open up a scotia saving account, and then just use the atm machines for scotia bank, fee free, and you will get a better rate than buying money, exclude the bank all together, just use th scotia atms, we consistently got .4 less than the xe rate,,,so if the xe website rate is 16.3 we would get 15.9 . i imagine the buy rate would be somewhere around 15.5

Thanks Rob! that's what I taught, I remember having not that much difference with Xe exchange rate but it's been almost 2 years we've been to Playa ... so had to have a refresh

We'll surely meet again (we met a couple times those past years) at the blue parrot or on 5th

If you use an ATM you are buying money. You are just buying it with a different method.

no you are not,,,there are 4 different rates, all different, going to a bank and ordering in money is buying money and that will be almost a full peso less, when you use an atm your just withdrawing your money

Today CIBC for example is selling at 13.89 so yes, as Rubio and others have said many times....ATM.
Of course the other factor is if you are not in PDC now to use an ATM, and not going to be for 2 or 3 months, where do you think the peso will be by then ? You could be ahead by purchasing some at your bank at home now. Feel lucky ?
Note: Check with your bank regarding foreign transaction fees using the ATM.
One of my banks charges 2.5% foreign transaction fee plus you have the charge the ATM in Mexico charges.
For Canadians,as Rubio has said, a ScotiaBank account and using ScotiaBank in PDC may be the way to go.

Hey guys...know we are always bugging you for this info BUT can anyone tell me how many pesos you are getting yesterday for one Canadian dollar at the money exchange stands (I know they vary slightly) and also if you know the Scotiabank ATM. Thanks a bunch.

I can't see it being much different then what Rob posted the other day.....maybe .2 different as XE is 15.12 at the moment. As for the cambios (exchange booths) I never use them. ATM all the way

So you are saying our canadian Scotiabank bank card will work at the ATM at the Scotiabank in Playa. Went there only once and the machine was not working. Had my bank card disappear in an ATM in Indonesia once. Not fun for the rest of my trip. Left a sour taste in my mouth.
But you guys are the best source of intel so I think I just might defer to you. Usually I just bring a ton of pesos with me and no I am not giving out my address. lol
Eventhough I am not going down until January, I was thinking this would be the best time to buy. Once everyone figures out Trump's whole platform (including building a dam wall) was nothing more than a posturing and pontificating and he is all talk, I think the peso will gain strength again. He is already vacillating on just about every lame thing he said. Just a little gal's opinion...sorry to all you Trump supporters...if there are any that aren't paid.

Yes.....and in any other ATM in PDC. I use Scotia, Santander, Bancomer, HSBC ATM's and with the exception of an HSBC saying it dispensed when it did not (my bank eventually refunded my account) I have not had an issue over many visits. I stick to machines in more secure locations such at banks or inside stores such as Mega. I do not use those little stand alone ones. I have a card I use for travel and transfer funds to it as needed.
Your Scotia one will save you fees when using Scotia in PDC. I would check with them to see what the charge is should you use a non- Scotia ATM. I do not have a Scotia account, but the card I have has low foreign transaction fees, unlike my CIBC, so I just use whatever one is handy for me. As for the peso value in the future......who knows. But currently CIBC is selling at something like 13.67 if I bought here, so if I were in Playa the today ( I wish) the ATM wins. But 13.67 might be a good deal by time I get there late January.

Losing card in ATM machine

Scotia banks here in Playa use a slide-in-slide-out card reader, so it never leaves your hand. No worries in that respect...

not on constituyentes, that changed half a year ago,
maybe longer.

in other news:
effective from tomorrow mexican interest rate up by 0.75 p.c.,
gives you 5.56 p.c. for your short term money investment before tax.
