Return to Playa

We were not in Playa last year, we went to St. Maarten. As nice as it was, we missed Playa. After coming here many times we have met some wonderful people that are in Playa the same time every year. So it's not only a vacation it's like you're getting together with old friends. It adds to the charm and uniqueness of the area.

We took the ADO bus from the airport, very easy and inexpensive. Once you pull into the bus station in town and start walking down 5th with your luggage you know you've arrived. We were staying at Playa Maya on 8th and the beach, that's where we always stay.

I was quite surprised to see all the construction going on in the area. I know some people call it progress but I feel it has taken away some of the quaintness of the area. In the past when you hit 8th this is what you would see:

This is now what you see:

And as you turn and walk down 8th this is what I was looking forward to seeing:

Now this is the view:

A little disappointed but okay I'm on vacation I gotta get past this. We checked in, unpacked and went on our merry way. Our first stop of course has to be Manne's. So nice to see Manne & Susie again.

And of course their tequila:

Playa Maya has done some renovations which I wasn't sure if I liked or not, obviously by now you figured out I'm not one for change. It's just the initial shock but we just drank our way through it and after a while you don't even noticed things have change.
Playa Maya with more beach space and their new sundeck:

I felt the same way last week when we were in Playa. I certainly don't need to see the same stores that I see at our local mall when I am on vacation. I tried to look past the progress. We had a fabulous time regardless.

But, those who live here don't necessarily mind

Babaloo I see your side too. I guess it would be nice to have all of the stores right in your neighborhood.

No complaints if they open a Whole Foods here

Next morning sitting on the balcony drinking
coffee watching the sunrise.

The day started out as a nice beach day

but the dark clouds and rain rolled in. Playa Maya has put a new veranda area in there hotel so we all scrambled up there to wait for the rain to past. Deb and Don so graciously made margaritas while we waited for the sun. And it came back out so whenever the sky turned dark Deb would make her margaritas to make the sun came out.
It worked everytime!
.

My husband is a craft beer snob so he's never
been a fan of the beer that is normally served in Mexico, you know the usuallys. But this year
he was very happy to find that Walmart sells
some craft beers and both Club de la Cerveza
and Wah Wah serve this:

And he was very upset because he really liked this one and didn't find it until our last day at
Wah Wah:

That evening as we usually do, we go back
to Manne's. We met this group from Conneticut
and had waaaay too much fun and waaay too
much tequila. Thanks guys!

Decided as much fun as we were having, we
needed to get something to eat. Our plan
for that night was La Mission. So we staggered,
I mean walked to our destination

I had the shrimp tacos:

Now I always remember their food was pretty
good. But I can't say I was very impressed
this time. But I might not be sure I was in
the correct frame of mind from all the tequila
to make a judgement. Because I remebered
from the past that they give you tortilla lime
soup with your meal. The next day I mentioned to
my husband that I didn't get my soup with my
meal and he told me they did and I ate it.

Yea, I got over it too. I think it's just when you first see it
and you're not expecting it. We also had a great time regardless
