Folks on here, for the most part I would think, have no such agenda which is why I came in here.

Well, if you don't trust the percentages, then skip looking at that and read the specific reviews. It's easy to tell which ones are fake, really. And easy to read between the lines and separate the people who are just negative complainers between the ones that had legit beefs with their stay.

There are about 5000 'very good' or 'excellent' reviews and 1,032 average and only 800 below average- I think it's safe to say (even assuming some are fake) that the hotel is pretty decent.

at any rate, reading through the reviews from experienced reviewers (not likely to be fake) will give you a lot more reliable info than the very few to none who have stayed there who will chime in on here.

Yes, it is a day by day thing. The beaches, for the most part, have been fairly free of sargasso. With that said, about 4 or 5 days ago, there were two large dump trucks on the beach at calle 4 and lots of sargasso AND stench. I have been walking down to the main ferry terminal and checking things out to the north and south. Playacar has looked relatively sargasso free and just a thin line of it north of the pier. Again, that can change from day to day.

I am sure that when the new cruise ship piers are finished off of the ferry terminal pier, the current flow could change drastically moving the sand every which way..

Turned out not to be a big deal at all. Fair bit on day 1 of our trip (still was no big deal though) and pretty much cleared up for the rest of our trip. Frankly the beaches and water are so amazing that the sargassun is an after thought!

All the work is currently being done under water. The footings are being done now which is why you do not see anything going on.

Xcalacoco was clean and beautiful this past week. There was some seaweed in the water at Ziggy's in Tulum but not that bad.

This morning there was a thick blanket of sargasso covering at least 50+ feet (wide) on the beach, looking as far as I could see north and south of the main ferry terminal. Also, about a three foot drop off/"cliff" on the beach just north of the ferry terminal. A hand full of palms are down. An army of workers were trying to clean the beach but what a task. I stopped by Lido and Zenzi beforehand, and the sargasso was very thick and wide there also. I am not sure that I have ever seen this much sargasso on the beach in Playa.
