Since you said thing and not things, I selected only one, although almost all are favorite things...

My favorite beach is the stretch just south of the Tulum ruins.

Best

My favorite stretch of beach starts in Puerto Morelos and ends in the Biosphere. My favorite bar on the Mayan Riviera is anyone I'm sitting in at the time.

Beach: far from Cancún Crowd, as long as it's the Caribean and the sand is white.
Cenote: Any of them.
Diving: As long as there is air in my tank, and water above my BC.
Food: Yes, lots of it, please.

I agree, Beachwolverine! The beaches south of the Tulum ruins are beautiful! Had an awesome caiprinha at Capt.Tutix on the beach so that was favorite drink.

I have to add my own. I have to say the atmosphere of the whole area. It is so laid back, relaxed & people that live there love life. I wish the rest of the world could catch on & do the same thing, especially in North America where frenzied, racing, grouchy, miserable people are the norm. I'm glad there are some people who are trying to reverse this trend, myself being one of them. The world would be more pleasant if we all lived on island time. Kudos to Anna (who is a great example) & James (whom I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet) for being great examples of lovers of life.

The Caribbean. I enjoyed Playa, I enjoyed the restaurants, the beach club, the hotel, the prices, Tulum and the hotel south of Tulum. It was all good. The food, the Tequila Barrel and La Ranita. I enjoyed being there with Kathy, meeting James and Anna, sushi at Cabalova, breakfast at la Cueva del Chango, coffee at Paamul. All enjoyable, but the Caribbean as a backdrop for most of it made it more memorable than other trips I have taken, other places I have lived.

I have only been to Playa and environs for one week. There is much there I still want to experience, but.....I first saw the Caribbean when I was 9. I am 52 now. It still amazes me with its colors. Combining it with a place that is somewhat similar to the resort town where I spent my early years. My wife said she heard more about my childhood in Brasil during our week there then she had in 25 years of marriage. It certainly did stimulate memories.

Enough of a Friday afternoon ramble for now.

I will go outside the favorites so far. Mine is the food...I love Mexican food at the best of times, and the chance to try so many varied little restaurants is wonderful. I don't think I have been to a place yet that has so many 'local' type restaurants, and that includes very large places like P.V. and Mazatlan....We got to try so many this trip...

Love the whole beach, but especially the tiny one at Tulum. Was totally awed by the ruins at Chichen-Itza,& can't wait to do Coba next year. We enjoyed a lot of good food, but standouts were FRidas' Bar & Panchos' Rest. & Don Emiliones, both on 5th.The absolute best thing is the people. The native people who work so hard and serve you so well are friendly & warm,& try to put you at ease, even with my high school Spanish.I am taking a course before next year,in order to show my respect and love for their country.I have been to many Caribbean destinations,& the people of Quintana Roo are 2nd to none!

Critter, this is so true. It's the number one reason we love Playa and keep returning year after year. There's something magical about Playa and the people who live there and those who visit.

Of course, the other things we like about Playa are:
Beaches
Ruins
Cenotes
Snorkeling
Food
Bars
Oh, heck we like 'em all!

Right on!! Cripes!! I wish I had seen this earlier so I could have posted and agreed before it sounds like I'm just getting on the bandwagon. It's true though. A beach is just sand, the ocean is just water, food is just calories, and booze is booze the world over. The people are it. The locals are fine, but the forum folk we managed to hook up with made the trip a very special event for us.
