I am really watching for airfares to drop right now. Anyone have any clue if it will happen before flights to playa sell out for my trip in August. It always seems when I go to Mexico they go down after I buy or go up if I wait. I have also been warned they sell out and then you are out of luck. Are the airlines just trying to get me to buy. I know I only paid $600 my last trip to cancun and I can't find anything lower then $850 right now. Any tips from more experience travlers. This is only my 4th trip to Mexico and second to Cancun, playa area. Thanks!

You will see the best deals about 3 to 3 month prior to your departure date. However, August is school vacation time and flights get booked out faster. We usually do not book sooner than 3 month out because of the better rates but we don't travel during school holidays.

Ok thanks I will keep watching. I am sure they will at least go down a little. I would rather save more money for spending. I am tracking 3 flights on expedia to see if they go down. I am found some deals at 911fly.com but the times arn't the best. I want to be able to enjoy the first day at least a little. I am flying out of Seattle so it a ways. I really just hope they don't book up and I can't get a flight.

Hi just an FYI I have been searching also for weeks for cheap airfare to Cancun, and here's what I have found out. I am leaving from Los Angeles and this is what I found for going in the month of July.
orbitz.com $591.06 round trip Alaska Airlines Aero Caribe Mexican AIrlines $592.53 There is a rate on CheapTickets.com that says $199.00 1 way but never was able to get to that paticular site. That's about the cheapest I found. Good Luck |

I booked my ticket through a charter company two months before I flew out (Mpls. to Cancun). I paid $400 for my ticket and checked on the price of a ticket on the same flight the day before I flew out. They had dropped to $233 and still had availability
This was prime time spring break and there were plenty of seats available. Here's a suggestion: If you know of a specific flight or have it narrowed down and you can book online (like MLT or Transglobal) through their website, try booking a large number of seats, like 8-10. If there are still this many seats available you know that the availability is good and the fares may drop. You'll have to do this on nearly a daily basis. Of course, you don't actually book all the seats but it will give you an idea if you should wait and purchase last minute or not, based on availability. I wish I would have known this trick before I bought my ticket! Next year! Good luck! |
