Alright....Day 3 is Monday morning, and we start it off with a protein bar and then a 7 mile run. Breakfast comes after! We walked up to about calle 50 on 5th street and then made our way to Canibal Royal, which is still right on the water.

Running towards the new Hyatt. Ugh

The new Hyatt seems open, but still working too!

Running by the airport....still don't think I'd fly into this field, lol.

Well I timed the run to kind of end around 1sur and 20th ave. Its time for KASTACAN!
1/2kilo with all the fixins!

Now you see it!

Now you don't!

That took all of about 10-15 minutes. If you get there around 7:45am or so the kastacan is just done getting cooked. Makes a great breakfast! The wife just watched as she says its a guy thing. She already has plans for her after run breakfast....so I finish and pay my $80 or whatever it was with a coke, and its off to get her breakfast!

Betty loves her bom bom's. I call them bomba's as that is how it sounds when Antonello (sp) says them.
Constituyentes and Ave 30. NW corner.

YUM!!!!

Well we went back to Wah Wah's for awhile after we got back to Soho, and got cleaned up. We played some paddle ball or whatever its called, and I threw on a do rag (that I found in a drawer at home) to keep the sun off my scalp. It was from Cancun in 2005. Everyone wore them back then. NOBODY wears them now, but I did! lol

El Farro looking good.

We walked on up to 1st ave and did a little window shopping as we usually do any real shopping on the day before we leave. Felt like a stop for tequila ice cream!

Spent a couple hours at our rooftop pool as it was 2 for 1 mojitos and our friends Marita and David came up to enjoy with us!

Well, we enjoyed the late afternoon with friends at the bar/pool. It was time to think about food for dinner. Betty and I chose La Brocherie for Monday and it didn't disappoint.
The little woman....probably a little hot, lol.

Chicken done in the south of france style.

Desserts to die for!

We took our time and enjoyed talking with the owner for quite some time. So fun to listen to the passion coming out of the restaurant owners here in Playa. They are so fun to sit and talk with. Really enjoyed our evening there. Walked by and I think we stopped in at Mannes for a tequila. Also stopped by Romeos just to make sure what night they were closed...they close wed. Well, sounds like I know where dinner will be mañana!

We walked down fifth ave and poked in and out of places and just did a little window shopping, a few drinks here and there and worked our way back north. Not sure when we called it a night, but I know with 100% certainty that it ended with this.

It was a really fun day. Weather has been very hot and sunny....Tuesday I know we plan on working out, and spending a little time at our rooftop pool, and then we are going out with our friends for a big night as I remember! I also had the best thing I ate all week for lunch on tuesday! Love Playa!

This is Betty..... I actually looked at those. While I like those, I wasn't able to open them up to hang things like tank tops, shorts, and really just about anything. I get my shower rings at Walmart for about $2.00 for a dozen, and usually take about 20 to 30....and yes, I use them all!

Nice work on the Kastacan. Not sure I could put back the 1/2 k but it would be fun to give it a go.

Was going to go back and do a 1 kilo sitting. Kind of a man vs food deal, lol. Until a canadian friend of mine explained that 1kilo was 2.2 pounds. Figured I could do it, but might not be the smartest thing. Ended up not making it back which upset me.

Internet has been non existent past two days. I think the remnents of tropical storm bill messed it up, but its rebooted and working again finally!!!

Tuesday is up and we get around pretty early. Breakfast and then off to the gym which was right next door. Evolve gym. Passes for only 100 pesos each which is a good deal.

Betty working it! She's a beast in the gym for a 50+ girl.

Done with the gym and went back to hotel. Had a swim and then showered and Betty wanted to go to Mega to purchase her lip gloss there that has a light in the handle...blah blah blah. Anyways they are about $2 at Mega and $15+ on line in the states. She has to buy a bunch every trip for her girl friends. Grabbed some beer and a few other essentials and then headed off to do some walking around.

North side of Mega. There are now a couple "taco trucks" on this side too. This one is pretty good.

Love the palm trees in the sidewalks......

Back on 5th ave....Betty used to love Soho in Cancun 10 years ago. Cute clothing, and they would really mark it down. Now, not so much, but they have mannequins outside the store.....

We went back to Soho, and then off for a late lunch at Axiote!
Walking by the soccer field they redid not too long ago...

Chips and salsas....unlike any other place

Cool looking place inside!

Now the food. I just did two of the starters as I wanted to try those two items. Betty the hater of all things seafood. Decided on a green salad, but it did have algae that you could sprinkle on it, which she did in a tiny spot. So kudos to her for that attempt at eating seafood.
Octopus......

My favorite meal of the trip. Duck tacos!!! They didn't look special, but the taste was amazing to me. Loved every bite.

Betty's algae for her green salad which was very good.

Well, we did a little more walking around and then went back to Soho and decided we would skip the beach today, as we had done a bunch of walking already and it was after 5pm. Spent the late afternoon at the pool on the roof!

Palomas made with Squirt....is there anything more refreshing that you can do with tequila? Big thanks to that great trip report a few years back. That turned us on to palomas and we have been huge fans every since! Two for one too! $60 for two strong palomas....we had quite a few people trying them at the pool. We tried quite a few too. Eddie was our bartender only one day, but was excellent. Got quite the buzz, lol.

Well, we crawled out of the pool around 7 went to the room and got ready for dinner. Our plans were to hit Romeos around 9pm, and the timing was perfect as there were a couple tables open and the crowd was thinning out. We love Romeos pizza (our favorite in Playa). We have been mildly disappointed by the service in times past, and once the pizza wasn't up to par, but tonight the food was matched by great service as well!

Our favorite salad that is a must have every time!

Betty loves pineapple on her pizza and this one was excellent!

Well, we enjoyed that to say the least! Got a text from Marita and Dave....they are at Dirty Martini, and its tuesday! Woot, 2 for 1 baby! We are there!

Betty is also not a fan of martinis, but she will do tequila shots all night long or until she can't. As long as I pace her, she is ok. So we had martinis and she did tequila.

Fun night at the Dirty!
We decided to walk on up first avenue to Caguamería de Esquina....Wendy always talks about their octopus, but its nearly 1am and we are not hungry but thirsty! We stayed there until whenever and had more fun!

Upstairs at Caguameria

The tequila shots were huge there. I had quit pacing her by this time! Oops!

Well, the night ended sometime. We sure were happy to run into this couple again. The first time 8 years ago or so it was a large TA group and we never got to really get to know them, but we always stayed in touch talking about great deals on trips, airfare, etc....then what do you know. They stay at the Aventura Mexicana across the street same day we get in at Soho. We loved them, and clicked right off the bat. Can't wait to spend more time with this couple again on down the line.....well, wait a minute. We do spend more time with them in a few nights. By the way, they left the next AM and went to the Royal the next day. Love the Royal!!!

Well that ends Tuesday in Playa. A great day/night with lots of delicious food and drink, and great friends. It can't get any better in Paradise!!!!

Or can it? Xpu Ha tomorrow. We love that place!

Well we wake up wed morning and grab some breakfast and head out to the collectivos to go to Xpu-ha. We always enjoy the beach club there, and the beach is usually so beautiful, but the seaweed will be pretty bad.

In the collectivo!

Here comes some random Xpu ha pics. Walking from the road a half mile.

Is that rain? Yes it is. It actually sprinkled lightly for a few minutes while we had a little beach siesta. So nice, but not much.

We had the nachos for lunch. 1/2 chicken 1/2 beef. We really enjoyed them! I enjoyed a bunch of Indio too obviously!

Well we spent the day there. Got in about 10amish, and got back to Playa around 4pm or so. I usually have such gorgeous pics of the beach and water there. It just wasn't meant to be this time. Got off the collectivos and hit the carts. It was still just a bit early in the afternoon. No churro cart yet, and some of the food was just getting going.

I had a couple tacos, and we walked back to Soho. Passed Billy the Kid tacos but didn't stop. Its a 24 hour a day taco place if you need that late night fix!

That evening we had El Oasis for dinner in their new location on 12th between 5-10ave. We just wanted to check it out for the tacos. Didn't realize it was all seafood basically. They made Betty some chicken fajitas special for her. Everything was pretty good. Nothing great.

shrimp and fish tacos

A corn based dessert. I liked it pretty well.

Us

Left El Oasis and walked down 12th to 1st ave, and found ourselves walking north. Stopped in at Umma Gumma to make sure they were still open! Had a drink and talked with them for quite awhile.

We left there and went walking down 5th avenue eventually. Just enjoying the evening and watching people. Walked up to about calle 28 and came across two guys we love!

Mike and Victor at La Chopperia!

That was such a great bonus for the night. It was about 11pm....so we sat and had some palomas and beers and listened to a couple sets. Victor is sooooo incredible on the guitar, and Betty can listen to Mike sing for hours. A great way to end the night. Walked back to 10th and to Soho around 12:30pm or so.

Well, not quite the end................
